Hello all,

I have two questions for you guys (I came here after seeing Reenmachine's page.)

I am starting a 1968 Mustang Coupe project inbetween deployments (I'm stationed at Fort Lewis, WA) and am need of two things, where to find a media blaster around Fort Lewis/Tacoma Washington and what kind of welder do I need to purchase.

Concerning the welder, I was looking at the two voltages, 110 and 220. What do you recommend for a hobbyist, should I go ahead and invest in a 220 unit able to weld thicker diamaters.

Here at a few models I was looking at:
HTP 160DV
Miller 180 w/Autoset

I've looked at both of these but was wondering would just some cheap one from wherever suffice for the job.

I learned how to do some basic MIG welding while in Iraq (welding steel plates to the bottom of the seats in a vehicle for IED protection) but we used whatever the motor pool provided for us.

If anybody could give me any suggestions or advice it would help greatly. I am a big fan of stangnet and www.reenmachine.com.

I can sort of answer your welder question. If you buy the right 110 welder you will be in good shape.

This has come up many times. If you use the search button and type in welder you SHOULD get all you need to know. The search function on this site kind of sux but it does work. Give it a shot, if you don't find what you need let us know and we will find it or someone will post the info you want.

Welcome to Stangnet and welcome home.

I have a Lincoln 140A 110V welder, and I'm happy with it. So far I've installed a floor pan, framerails, seat platforms, and I'm working on a roll cage. That's all with gas-shielded wire; they say it's good for 5/16" with the flux-cored stuff but I don't like to use that when I don't have to because it's a hassle to clean up, or if you start and stop your welds a lot. Cost about $500 new but you could probably get one for less if you find a good used deal.

Can't help on the media blaster, other than to suggest places like northern tool. Eastwood has all that stuff if you want to get it shipped.
