Questions on EGR Valve?

I live in Cali so I have to use the egr valve, but when I installe dmy intake I also put in a 1 inch pacer that caused the pipe that runs from my headers up to the valve to be short. So I had to cut the pipe and make my own getto extension. Now I notice that my extension isn't exactly air tight and it has a huge leak.

Can I just plug the egr valve without removing it and not worry about it for now? Seeing that I only have to smog the car every 2 years and I just did it. Will it cause the car to run bad?

Also I heard about a smog deletion equipment, what is this and what does it do?

you can delete it and plug in an eliminator thing into the wiring harness. A 351 cleveland fuel pump block plate will fit the elbow and block that opening. as far as the header, go to a hardware store and get a plug to put in the header.

supposedly with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/87-9...020QQitemZ300072734977QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW it will not alert the computer and give you a CE light, but i'm not 100% sure on that.

If possible try keeping it. It will keep the car from pinging. Or in your case possibly avert that problem if you block it off.

The pinging would come from the extra timing and dialback of injector PW that occurs during EGR conditions. The EGR's inert gasses allow less fuel and more spark to be used - without those inert gasses (as with a blocked EGR), the ping-thing can occur.

The best bet is to turn the EGR function off with a tune(r) or to set an EGR code but keep the EGR position sensor in it's functional range (but in a locked position). The computer might see the lack of EGR position change and shut off the EGR function in the computer all by itself (this is how an A9* processor works, but I have yet to get with Don or one of the other gurus to see if this is true on the 5N95 processors).

I made my own EGR tube with 1/2" flexible copper tubing (the stuff you'd hook up a refrigerator ice maker/water dispenser with). It's actually very easy, especially since you already cut your stock tube, too. Head down to the hardware store and pick some up. You'll need less than a foot, but the local Ace Hardware only sold it in 1 foot increments, so I think with everything, it cost me a couple dollars.

What you'll need to do is:

1. Measure a piece of flexible tubing that will reach from the EGR bung on the header up to the intake

2. Cut the flared ends off of your stock EGR tube, with about 1/2" of tube leading up to the flare.

3. Slip the nuts from the stock tube on first, then slip the pieces of the original EGR tube over the ends of the copper.

4. Slip a feril over the end of the copper tubing to seal against the pieces of the factory EGR tube (it's not an exact fit, so this is critical to getting it to seal correctly)

5. Tighten it up to the header and intake. You're done!

My BBKs came with a 5/8" OD EGR tube that was to short beacuse I used a 3/8" intake spacer. I cut the tube in half and used a 5/8" compression union to extend the tube. These unions are also available in 1/2" OD. Once tightened, they are leak free.

Be sure to have both ends tight before you tighten the compression union.

...well the smog delete kit...im guessing your talking about the pump removal and the fixed pulley put in its place..? if you do the smog pump delete you gotta plug the tube on your h pipe

you can completely remove your egr..but with emissions i have no idea..? i dont get tested in michigan..? but you need 9/16 by 3/4" bolts to block the back of the heads and for the header block off you cut your erg tube to steal the end off and put a penny in it and screw it back onto the header....perfect seal...the plug in for the erg can be turned off with a tune..there is a series of resitors you can install to "fool" the comp or there is a product on ebay that plugs in and fools the comp also. the 351C fuel block off plate is used to block the opening on the elbow....it can be bought at a local parts store cheap.
