Quick Diablosport question.

If I were to buy a used Diablosport tuner, I would just be able to tune the car myself right? I would have the option to do that, or would it just download whatever tune was in there and only let me modify it a little?

Also, say I wanted to get the car dyno tuned. Could I just take the car and the Diablosport to a shop that dyno tunes with that software, or do you have to buy a tuner specifically designed to tune the car on the dyno?

You can put in the basic Predator tune that comes with the tuner yourself. You can modify that tune yourself also. Myself, I just put in the basic tune it comes with, and took it to a speed shop and let them modify the tune according to my performance mods. They also played with the A/F ratio. The 4V takes more playing with the tuner than the 2V which most people just max out the spark advance. I've seen one person try and tune their Mach in a parking lot, and then wonder why his Mach runs like crap, and he lost 30 HP when he took it to get it dynoed. I let the speed shop mess with tuning it. They can see what's going on with the engine.

You will be able to somewhat modify the tune yourself with the hand-held unit, but generally only across very broad rpm ranges. A shop equipped with Diablo CMR software will be able to offer true custom tuning across much finer rpm ranges. if your favorite dyno shop does not use Diablo software, you can still use their dyno information for your car, along with some Predator datalogging information taken at the same time, and get an equally good custom tune from one of several on-line sources.

Cool deal. I have the chance to pick one up for about $175. I guess I can just load the basic tune, and also use it to pull codes and shut off my rear o2's.

There is a very very reputable Ford tuner a few hours away and they use Diablosport to tune with, so if I wanted to get it dyno tuned I guess that would be the place to go.

Burning Rubber -- I'm sure you know this but: make ABSOLUTELY sure that the stock OEM tune is returned to the car the Predator is currently "married" to! The owner cannot keep the performance tune and give you the unit or all you'll have is an expensive plastic paperweight.
And Diablosport WILL NOT unlock a used tuner.

Yup, the stock tune has been returned to the car it was on, so its good to go.

Thanks for the heads up though, at first when I started looking at programmers that part confused me.

Its installed, it kills my battery whenever I first loaded it and again when I modified the tune.

I dont really feel a difference.

But that article is interesting, I might bump the timing after a couple of days... no pinging so far.

Dyno it sometime, with both the stock and then with the Predator tune. If it killed the battery, twice, then there's your sign that your battery is not long for this world.

I had to go to a custom tune to get my A/F under control. I sent my dyno information along with some Predator datalogs done during the same dyno session(s) to a CMR dealer/tuner, and received the custom tune back in less than 24 hours. After about three tweakings using this process, everything's great performance-wise.

Hello Guys,

I'm not trying to high jack the tread or anything, but since we were talking about chips I thought that I might key in.. I was wondering which of the chips is better, the Diablo, or the SCT Tune. My Saleen came with an SCT... I was just wondering.. Thanks,

The quality of the tune does directly relate to whether you use a Diablo or a SCT tune. What matters is the skill and experience of the person developing the tune, and in the right hands, either Diablo or SCT software can give you excellent results.

I think I actually saw you out driving today. I waved, but wasn't sure if that was you or not. Anyway, I guess you are referring to Fastlane in NC as the diablo tuner. Let me know if you want to drive up there one day. I think it would take about 3 hours. I want to get my car tuned also. I was thinking of switching to the SCT software since I could tune more of the parameters myself, but really I don't think that there is any substitute for a dyno tune. Anyways, good luck:nice:

Yup that was me, I thought that was you so I gave the thumbs up, lol. Your car looks straight menacing coming down the road...:nice:

I was looking at Fastlane and I know they use Diablosport, but on their website I couldnt find any info about their rates or anything. I was reffered to CPR in Columbia as being pretty good. They did a couple of gear installs for 2 guys in the club, and they have a pretty good rep from what I hear. I think their rates are about $130 per hour.

Either or though, I know Fastlane has some very sick cars and they know whats what.

But ill probaly play around with it for a little while before I take it to get dyno tuned. It keeps killing my battery every time I use it though, lol. I need to fix that.
