so I bought a couple of o2 sensors from two different stores because the first store only had one in stock.
I get home and notice one has a longer pigtail than the other and both have different part #s, but both are three prong.
Both are Bosch sensors. My question is, could I use these or did they give the wrong one? How do you know what sensor is for what side?

according to autozone they are interchangible(long and short pigtail). either one can go on either side.

They should both work on either side. If there is one that is a little tight, use the long one for that side.

I know I bought a few 02 sensors for my 98 (OBD II though), and it used the same Bosch part numbers for either side, and front or back. I know OEM, there is a difference between sides...

You could always take back one of them and get one of the same, if you can
