My son and I are starting to tear apart an 85 gt. The car is really shot inside, ok for the rest. I am going to replace the drivers side with a racing seat, but wondered about putting two in the back. We are going to attempt turning it into an auto cross car, so I thought the rear seats would be fun (and cheaper) to do this. I just don't know if this has been done and if there was any advice. I will be posting later on the auto cross, now I just wanted to get some of the "atmosphere" out of the car.
Thanks,
Doc

If it's an autocross car why put the back seats in at all?

My son is 10, so when we are on the street, he can't sit in the front. He is really thrilled and has spent most of the day "working" on the car.

Just put a factory rear seat in then, they are usually dirt cheap.
And you could probably use the seats out of an 87-93.
Probably make the interior look alot better too.
Racing seats aren't going to save any weight, rear mustang seats barely weigh anything.

He is right. Racing seats would be more expensive, and no matter what kind of seat you use (racing seat, fiberglass bucket, ect) it would still be heavier, and imo less appealing than the stock rear.

To bad the factory 85 stuff is in bad shape. 87-93 stuff would work but in no way make it look any better.

Right, but what would be more expensive, finding a stock rear or racing seats? Plus I don't see racing seats looking any better then stock for rear seats. Also how you would even use them? Mabye buckets but ? That's alot of empty space and I don't see any designed to fit there.

Thanks guys. I am having a bear of a time putting the rear seat back in, I am missing some hardware or not sure what. I can'g find where the seat backs fit. I was going to use buckets in the rear, but I'll "delete" that though.
Now that I have your attention, where do you think I should start with suspension mods to auto cross this car. I have alread searched some on the leaking rear main seal, any tips on the easiest way to replace? The leak is worse than I thought. I am having a horrid time with the bad window switch, mostly due to how someone else fixed it. This reminds me of why my father didn't like electric windows...
Thanks guys, I will be posting more, let me know if this is not the forum for me.

When i deleted my rear seat, i tossed all the hardware and bolts and kept just the cushions themselves.
When i realized how stupid it was to delete the rear seat, i went to the JY and got all the brackets and hardware for $20. People also put the hardware on ebay too without the seats.

Suspension starts at the same place every time.
Subframe connectors.

Then it could go in a bunch of other directions, i'd probably start with what is most worn on the car first.
