rack and pinion

I read lots of negatives on Flaming River r&p with no explanations, what is the problem with this manufacture?

Also does anyone have a "unisteer" rack?

Thanks I think I am going to get a Steeroid rack from Speed Direct. http://cmc.speeddirect.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=84513-WEB&eq=&Tp= For the money it appears to be a decent choice. I most likely will retain the existing steering column and cut it as needed, maybe later I can change over to tilt.

Their racks have a good turn ration and I can use the power steering pump on my car, hope it works! When I got the car it was not rolling, still isn't but it will.

I am going to call "Wurth it Designs" tomorrow before I make the final decision. http://www.wurthitdesigns.com/

I am going to change out the brakes to disc and change the suspension to a coil over as well. Been reading tons of threads all over the place and it pays to do your homework.

There really is too much to chose from out there.

ARPM,

Thanks read that one already, calling him tomorrow for a price.
I also read your old thread regarding the coil over you made custom, gave me good insight on that part of the front suspension.

I still cannot decide if I should go with Ron Morris setup (like yours) or just get SPAX shock with 500# coil springs and do the Shelby drop (drilling new holes)

I like the idea of being able to adjust the height as in the R.Morris over coil set that still uses the upper control arm and spring perch. I would get the roller bearing perch too.

My engine will be a 302, built up motor.

Sorry for drifting off topic.

It is so darn hard to make a selection on these elements.:bang:

coil overs are great, but just ask yourself one question...how often will you really change ride height? I opted not to get them on my MII kit simply because once I get my desired height, thats it, i wont be changing it, so it reduces the cost quite a bit

I hear you.
But how tricky is it to get the desired height? The Shelby drop is a 1" or so drop then adding 1" drop springs should equal 2". Of course this is not exact, reason I considered the adjustable height coil overs.

I sure would not like to be changing out 2-3 sets of springs to get it where is looks and feels right, or is this the way it is done? :jaw:

I wanted to place a WARNING on this thread that no one should order a rack from: RICK WURTH.

I sent in my $1595.00 on October 21, 2009 and have not received my kit yet.

He does not return phone calls and rarely picks up his phone. No email for him.

When I ordered the rack I was told about two weeks for delivery.

EDIT: Today(nov 30) I reached Rick Wurth by phone. He says his cell is not getting messages, and assures me a refund check will be sent to me. Updates will follow when this is resolved.

Rick Wurth and Wurth it Designs

On December 2, 2009 a refund check was received for the full amount of $1595.00 from Rick Wurth. When it clears I will post here again with an update.

changing coils is really the way to change ride height, winding the spring on a coil over up and down has far more negatives than positives, I can't say that anyone use that for any more than 1/2" of fine tuning....

I did much reading on this issue and even considered going the do it myself route of adapting one to my 69(Electro-Mech Designer here). I had already purchased the coil overs from TCP. I knew I wanted a quality system and no BS. So finally decided on the TCP manual R&P. Pricey YES! But man what a quality part! I talked to many folks about the wheel resistance, it basically came down to the weight of the 351W and the tire width on the front. Too much tire and too much weight would have forced me into a power assist R&P..

Good luck.

good choice. I am running one in my 65 mustang. Mechanical engineer here and i designed my front suspension. But TCP is the route i will go for my falcon as well.
