so i have had this dillema lately. when i turn my wheel from close to full lock to close to full lock the other way, i get 2 (most of the time 2) pops, and the front end seems to skip over. ive been told its the rack shifting. it didn't used to always do this. it only does it when im moving like into or out of a parking space. if it is the rack moving, can i just get the aluminum offset bushings?

It has nothing to do with whether you are or aren't using aluminum bushings. Either the rack bolts aren't tight enough, or there's something internally wrong with it which is just as likely. Or, it isn't the rack at all. Lift the hood and get someone to turn the wheel for you lock to lock while you watch the rack, see if it's moving at all. Try to identify the pop. Does it only do it when you're rolling?

i think it only does it when im rolling actuall. if you watch the rack while someone turns it moves allot, though you cant see it knock and move over all at once..

Then tighten the rack. Definitely don't keep driving it until you do.

Do you still have the bushing in the steering linkage where the shaft meets the rack? On my 86 its missing and it does the same thing,,, I'd check that out.
