There's no way a laser detector can save your butt. As soon as it detects the laser you are already clocked, and in most cases it DOES NOT detect the laser because the cop would have to point the laser almost directly at the radar detector. Most cops target your license plate or headlights - anything very reflective - for a laser gun reading.

There is a product out there called laserveil that actually reduces a laser gun's effectiveness on reflective areas on your car... but I would go with laser blinders to be 100% effective. 3 front, 3 rear.

Laser Blinders are not very effective against a real-life speed trap, just an FYI.

One other thing, VASCAR does not need to use an aircraft, it does not need to have a car sitting on the side of the road.

Gee dude... has living in Saskatchewan frozen your brain? Or are you simply so pompous that you believe these things are useless? I am curious about one thing however... given that NOWHERE in my post did I say that radar detectors protected against VASCAR, how in the Sam Hill did you get that impression? Are you stoned? Or just not bothering to read?

VASCAR typically takes place using either fixed wing aircraft, rotary wing aircraft, cars, or motorcycles. Normally what happens is that Cop #1 radios in as they watch a vehicle cross a known point in the road. Cop #2 watches as the vehicle crosses point number two. Given that they know the distance between the two points and now know the time its pretty easy to figure out the speed. That information is relayed to cop #3 who pulls the vehicle over and writes the individual up. There are numerous permutations to this but its the basic principal that counts. And for that matter your Canadian police may use some other permutation not necessarily legal here in the US (but perfectly legal in Canada). I'm speaking relative to U.S. practice and procedures since I have a tad more experience with that.

Oh and TGJ maybe you ought to consider that calling people "morons" on these forums may not be considerate, correct, or appropriate. Next time one of the mod's may see it and find it necessary to have you summarily spanked!!

With all the radar detectors on the road, do cops ever set up unmanned radar stations, just to trip the detectors? That seems like a pretty effective way to slow down traffic ...

Ok guys listen up. I know what I'm talking about because I'm the guy that gives out these things. For the record I usually don't write a ticket unless someone deserves it; no insurance, no license, head up $@#. When I run radar I have a limit of at least 15 over the limit before I stop someone. Now are there cops out there who will write thier mother for 1 over, sure. The best way to do it is be aware of where you are and what time of day it is. Rush hour or any time during the day is bad. Late at night inside the city is bad. If your going to go that fast pick and choose a time and place where there isn't much traffic (none at all is best) and you can see and be seen for a long distance. Just remember if or when you do get caught the best thing to do is be polite. Attitude can go a long way.

I said VASCAR is undetectable!

You then said and I quote...

I read your post and that is implying that VASCAR is detectable. Maybe you better make sure of what you type before you press submit.

You then went on to say and I quote...

It simply means you need to be more aware of the police car sitting on the side of the road... the aircraft flying parallel to the highway overhead... and the cars driving in the opposite direction flashing their headlights.

The police do not need to be sitting still on the side of the road to use VASCAR. They also do not need air support to use VASCAR and more recently in another of your posts, they do not need 3 police cars.

You have the concept of VASCAR, but that is not correct on the normal use of VASCAR. VASCAR does not need to be done with air support, it does not need 3 police officer, it doesn't even need 2. A single police officer in a single car can use VASCAR.

How do I know that, hmmm, VASCAR is my favorite tool to catch speeders. Most of the time, I am alone in a car with no backup for miles and no air support. How can I do it? I leave that for you to figure out since your the VASCAR expert.

Now why I say these devices don't work. I am with the Highway Enforcement unit. When all these devices come out, we buy them and test them. We use our present speed trap methods against these and see how they do. Since we have adopted the Laser speed detector a few years back, not a single device has caused us to change our practises. NOT A SINGLE ONE and here you guys are telling these people they work. I wil put it, Plain and simple, out in the real world against a real speed trap, you are toast before you are warned about it regardless of what you are using to protect yourself.

I shouldn't say that, there is still Law Enforcement using the old Radar speed detectment equipment and Radar detectors work well against that.

If you are going against Laser or VASCAR, you are toast before you are warned, regardless of what you are using to protect yourself.

Tsk...tsk... sadly you're making assumptions here. Since I have no desire to cross that line all I can say is: WHATEVER!

Again more assumptions! Is it coincidence that you conveniently excluded my statement beginning with "There are numerous permutations to this ..." or "... Canadian police may use some other permutation ..."? Once again... WHATEVER!

I'll keep that in mind the next time I choose to take a drive through Saskatchewan! Down where I live Ka-band is the standard radar enforcement in use and radar detectors work QUITE WELL! They provide responsible and "not so responsible" drivers with a "heads up" reminder of where PD with active/instant-ON radar guns can be found; advanced warning to where speed traps are; and an early warning in advance of where photo radar trucks and "red light" radar enforcement can be found.

I appreciate your perspective on radar. Unfortunately the information you provide MAY have more relevance to the prevailing laws and practices of your province of Canada. Here in the Western US our utilization of radar for traffic enforcement is somewhat different.

Yes I do, I know of at least 10 states without doing any research that use VASCAR in a single car application, similar to what I do. So be careful of the accusations you make.

You might want to make it Canada Wide. Not every single RCMP detachment has VASCAR but a lot do. Just an FYI for the Ontario people, the OPP is VASCAR capable as well.

And there are also some that use multiple vehicles... and some that use fixed and rotary wing aircraft... and an awful lot of states that use RADAR. And since this thread is about radar detectors and not mounties hijacking threads I suppose we should be talking about RADAR DETECTORS!!

The Escort 8500 X50 rocks!!! Great price point... decent form factor... and pretty accurate at sniffing out radar traps too.

I have had my detector go off on Laser twice and both times I hit the brakes, and right over the crest of a hill - there sat "Smokey". It did work, it does work - maybe not all the time, but when I needed it - it was there.

as far as radar goes - I stopped counting years ago...

Ok PAL, Everything I have said, I have been able to substantiate, unlike you who is posting a bunch of BULL-****. Every State that uses VASCAR can use it in a single patrol car, most do! Yes you can use more than one car, yes you can use air support. These are not the normal use of VASCAR.

How about this. How many States use just RADAR against speeders? They don't use anything else other than RADAR. If you don't know, you might want to look into that.

This is my last reply in this thread. I am not going to try to educate the willingly stupid! I don't care, it is your money, waste it on these things if you like. Just don't blame the device when you get caught.

Before you start calling BS and calling people "Willingly stupid". You might want to reread the post you are responding to. I did not see where he said it could not be done in a single car. And I don't see where he said any state uses "only" radar. And while you have said "I am with the Highway Enforcement unit". You do not seem to have the kind of attitude that would go along with such a position. As you have on more than one occasion taken a far more aggressive stance than necessary.

I said I wasn't going to reply again, I will to this.

I have an extremely tough past few weeks. The Queen of England is currently in Regina. There is a lot of involvement in that so my patience is testy right now. No excuse though, I will step up to the plate on that.

I tried to be nice and give you guys a fair shake of what is out there and used against you.

The BS I am referring to is all the crap he posted about VASCAR and continues to post on it. All VASCAR is, is a calculator that determines speed from the time it took an object to cross Point A to Point B. Yes VASCAR can be used in the air, or between multiple cars. The multiple cars is kind of difficult though. However, more commonly it is used by a single car. That car either sees you, turns around and paces you with VASCAR or the car is already behind you and is pacing you with VASCAR. Most common use is in a moving single car.

I don't care if you buy these and think they work. Waste your money then.

Substantiate it??? You've yet to substantiate a single thing dude. Just because you SAY its so doesn't mean it is. Thus far you've said an awful lot and seem to believe that because you said it it must be so. Well thats not substantiation my friend thats your ego writing checks.

To substantiate means to provide supporting documentation in support of your claim. So where's the supporting documentation to say that the methodology I described isn't correct? And doesn't happen? And that the methodology you describe is the correct and proper way to enforce using VASCAR?

Tell ya what... here's the documentation you didn't see fit to provide. This provides an explanation of what VASCAR is and how it works. All you had to do was provide documentation such as this and you'd have proven your point. Sadly you chose the low road instead.
