real mach1?

Let me start off by saying im new to the ford family, well sorta..My 1st car was a 1949 ford custom delux and ive bought an resold a few older fords but ive always been a Mopar and GM guy (still am actually) anyway I just traded my 94z28 for a 1972 mustang fastback with a gorgeous interior an that needs little to no body work other than paint (its primer) it has a 351 windser. I was told by the owner that it is a real Mach 1 and that i can check the vin numbers and it will match up. I dont have a vin decoder is there anyway of telling from looking at the car? I look forward to owning this car for along time

The body type should be "05" in the VIN for a sportsroof/mach 1. (2f05XXXXXXX)

The vehicle certification label should have 63R (NOT 63D) for a mach 1 over just a sports roof.

Without looking at a vin I can tell it's not numbers matching if it has a 351 Windsor. In '72 the only V8's available were the 302 and 351C (and that includes the rare R code).

hey guys sorry I havent gotten back to you, i forgot my login info..anyway It is a real Mach1 with a 351 cleveland as I have found out when I changed my header gasket over the weekend. It does say 63R on the door under "Body Type" and the Vin starts with 2f05. Thanks guys
