REALLY OT: My Red Neck is Showing!

Watching an episode of "Law and Order" as I type this. Here's the set-up:

Reservist (Army INACTIVE Reserve) is murdered. Under questioning, the (Iraqi citizen native) wife of an American oil company guy suddenly claims herself a "POW" and cops to the murder. She hires a shark-type defense attorney (Ron Silver, what a guy ) to claim that, as a POW, the defendant is not culpable under US civil.criminal; but subject to the Articles of the Geneva Convention, under which she could be sentenced to 25 years -vs- life sentence or even death (if Hill and Billy haven't gotten the death sentence totally repealed in MY).

Watching a twisted, tortuous trail while I type this... and I have no clue why! As I see it, if the defendant has indeed acted as an Iraqi combatant; why the h-e-double-toothpicks has she not been dressed in a military uniform????? If acting as an enemy combatant while not wearing militaristic type uniform clothing nor acting within the discipline of a military unit; this woman would be considered (under the Articles of the Geneva Convention as I understand them) as acting in a effort of espionage - in other words a spy. There ain't no "plainclothes officers" under Geneva!! Last I heard, spies can be executed out of hand. So why on earth didn't the good guy lawyer just tell the bad guy lawyer, "Gee, okay, I'll turn her over to the military machine. They can shoot her without a trial, and I can take the rest of the week off and go fishin'. Thanks for the idea!"

And yes, my neck has indeed turned much more red and will just get worse as time progresses. Got a little surprise when "the older kids" came back from Sandy Eggo this past Friday...... NoKitten reports for boot camp early January (don't remember the date; somewhere in one of the Carolinas); and 1/2 (my little tiny baby girl) reports March 8th to Ft. Len Wood in Missouri - hey, is that anywhere near you, Chelle?

I keep hearing my Dad singing "You're in the Army now....."

PS: No, Hop, it's not Parris Island or LeJeune...... NK heard that "MARINE" is actually an acronym for "Muscles Are Required, Intelligence Not Essential" and decided to wear Army blue. 1/2 did the same, but only because the Army is the only branch with a Veterinary Service Corps.

Never mind.... chalk it up to "beer for supper"!

Wait a minute,,,, had a thought. If NK is looking at an MOS of "airframe machinist" (and knowing what the Army flies, mostly); I'm thinking he's gonna end up at Rucker sometime. So how far is that from Montgomery????

Okay, I tried to be a little more succint in that last post; but apparently I failed! NoKitten is looking at an MOS of "Airframe Machinist". Knowing that most (but not all) Army aircraft (and therefore airframes) are helicopters; I guessed he'd eventually end up at Ft Rucker, outside Dothan, Alabama. The question is; "How far is that from Montgomery?"

No offense, skywalker; the Marine acronym was just a to see if Hopkinator is still alive. Actually, I was enlightened to that acronym by a good friend (now deceased) formerly of the 2nd LAAMBn stationed here in Yuma.
As far as airframes go; you must remember that rotary wings tend to shake, rattle, and roll more than any other airframe; and since the Army flies more choppers (percentage-of-total-aircraft-wise) than any other branch; I'm thinkin' he's gonna see more than a few eggbeaters.

Thanks for the heads up on Rucker/Dothan. When I think of "the South", my mind is more colored towards "those of us who live on the Mexican border"..... anything east of, say Colorado/Texas is (culturally and figuratively) almost like another country!
