Actually, it is your statement which is asinine. If you pay sticker price, you are a fool. You may feel great because you got your cars at 1K below sticker, but that is nothing. I'm not trying to dog you, but you need to educate yourself.

If you pay MSRP you are a sucker. For any car. Car salesman are sleaze, and you need to treat them that way. Problem is, people are either in too much of a hurry, or think the sales guy is "doing his best" and don't want to be mean. You gotta forget all that. It's YOUR money, and it is a war. In the grand scheme of life, if you get your mustang today, or 2 months from now, it's meaningless. So take your time.


And a quick side note, my friend got his GTI 337, which actually was a limited production car, for a few hundred over invoice when it came out. So 900 under MSRP is nothing to brag about. You got had...pick up, and learn from it. Dealers still make money selling it to you at invoice, the more cash you put up front, the more they are willing to realize that fact. If you show up and say, "yeah, id like this 30k dollar car, but all i can afford to put down is $200" you might want to think about a cheaper car, becasue time value of money is what it's all about.

I say that you don't need a rebate.

I've got a deal not to exceed 2% over invoice. I didn't negotiate it, I just told the dealer that I wanted X-Plan pricing, even though I am not X-Plan. He is using my AAA membership to justify the pricing.

My dealer took my 2005 order over the phone, and although I hadn't committed, he placed the order. He told me today that he's got the DORA, I'll get a fax of it tomorrow. He ordered it with the Shaker 1000 instead of the 500 (that's what I get for doing it over the phone), time to negotiate that down to Shaker 500 pricing.

HAHA....some of you are fools. Lets see anyone has a "I gotta friend that did this" STFU. For one, buying American cars is totally different than buying Imports. Imports rarely have rebates, discounts, sales, and other cost lowering deals. Especially a limited run car or a car like sports cars that target a specific market. The mustang is s different story because they sell (i can't remember) 100K-200K a year. Now ofcourse I've heard stories of people gettin some rare car for Invoice, and I'm sure it happens, it just doesn't happen often. If the MSRP is 2000 over, I'm ok with taking a 1000 off of that. I guess that means I got had. Oh and btw when i bought my GTI I had 1 week to buy a car, my daily driver died and I took a week off to buy a car. So I didn't have the luxury of time to sit and battle with car salesman. What's funny is one of you talk about "educate yourself"......there are so many variables in a car purchase that you can't even begin to imagine my circumstances for buying a car. Just a couple: Area, time of year, dealer, salesman, weather, what day of the month, model, how the model is selling, how long it's been on the lot, how much I'm not putting down because I'd rather invest that lump sum, if they practice hold-back, how many cars they've sold that month, if its a high volume dealer, how many dealers are near by, i could go on for days.......Sorry bud, but that measly 500 you might have save over me for waiting 2 months is about 10 bucks a month when all is said and done. I've never paid MSRP but they dealers have to make money too. It's one of the few things we buy that we are allowed to negotiate a price for and if they don't make money they won't be there. In fact, price isn't the only thing that matters to me. The deciding factor on my purchase was the professionalism of the dealership. Some people don't care about the hassle you need to go thru to get another 500 dollars off of a 25K car. "Educate Yourself", you're a sucker for any car that you pay MSRP......I want you go get a Ford GT for under MSRP.

How long does it take you to earn $500 at work? It takes me about 3 1/2 days. So, are you saying that the hassle with the salesperson is as bad as working your job for 3 1/2 days? You must have a great job.

And, actually, I have a discount plan for 2% below invoice, so if I had the money for a GT, I'd do just as you suggested.

People like you are what keeps the dealerships in business in spite of people like me. Kudos, man.
