I put my new red top in this week, and was troubleshooting the car. I left the key ON for a couple days, came out and hey, a dead battery. How do I recharge it? The same as a usual battery, 12V low for an hour or so?

I've got a giant battery charger of my own. The one you see at car lots, etc., and probably the one that Pep Boys has. Anyway, just wanted to know if there was a certain way to do an Optima, it's my first time with one.

U can use a regular charger. I don't waste time on regular chargers, I take it Autozone and let them charge it, plus they run test to make sure there is nothing wrong with the battery. Good luck

Jump the car with another car, drive around for about 15 or 20 min.. The battery will then be charged.

Oh yea - thanks guys. Like I said, just wanted to see if there was a "special" way of doing it, since it's not really the the common-type car battery. And I also didn't want to just go ahead with a regular charge and kill it, that would've sucked. I have 0 miles on the damn thing and already drained it.

you can charge it like a regular battery, but from what i understand Optimas dont take to kindly to being drained all the way down.

mine car has a drain in it somewhere, so my battery has been dead requently.

anyway, the guy at the auto parts store said that since the optimas are gel filled (vs the liquid), they have to idel for about an hour or more to get optimal power.

I have heard the same thing - after a full discharge, they won't take a full charge again. Don't know how true it is, though..............
