Sigh...I knew my 99' GT wouldn't stay perfect/dent-free forever, but I've managed to keep it virtually flawless/dent-free by parking away from cars up until last weekend.
I check the car over all the time, and I didn't notice anything until my mom took my Stang for the weekend. Apparently someone flung their door into my car....there was black paint, scratches, and an ugly dent. I managed to get all the paint off with bug and tar remover, which looked a step better. Then, I used Meguiar's ScratchX and got the scraping to a minimum, another step better.
As for the dent, I remembered seeing a corny advertisement where you twist and pop out the dents. I read some reviews that said it was crap and some saying ok, so I thought it was worth a try at $20; I purchased Ding King.
I carefully followed the directions, and Ding King worked! After several pops, I had the dent virtually gone, and I was extremely happy. I quit there, and it was almost hard to find any damage.
This is the saddest part of the story. Being a perfectionist, I saw a tiny hairline of distortion in the sunlight and got the Ding King back out. I did two more "pops," and it pulled the dent completely out, but beyond the surface! I now have a protruding dent!
I'm so mad at myself for doing those last two pops. I'm not touching it anymore. Does anyone know what I should do? Do you think a body shop can flatten it out to perfection with minimal cost? I want that non-distorted shine back.
