Ring Gear Question

Does anybody know what size the ring gear is from the factory for a 1986 4cylinder non-turbo mustang with a 3 speed automatic?

MY 89LX 4cylinder auto had a 7.5" 2.73:1 geared rear. And it was open track not a traction lock.

Your '89 should have 3.73's if it was an auto....only the 5.0's got 2.73's to the best of my knowledge. I know I have 3.73's stock, car used to be an auto.

But yeah, it's a 7.5" open diff.

What abopt a 93 with an Auto? Also an 88 with a stick.....just getting ideas floating around?

typo that should say 86LX, I have never owned a '89.

I called the local Ford House today and gave them the id off the tag that is attached to the pumpkin. They said it is a 3.27.

Auto was 3.73, manual was 3.45 (pretty sure).

Mine wasnt. I took the tag of and decoded it. Mine was a 2.73:1 open track.

I thought mine was supposed to be a 3.73 like you said, but the Ford Parts/Service says it is a 3.27. How do you decode the axle tag?

Example:

WGX-AV 3A19

3 73 7.5 S390A

WGX is the axle model
3A19 is the date code for when it was manufactured
Gear ratio if it was a traction Lock it would be 3L73
7 5 is the size of the ring gear
S390 is the plant coding S is for Sterling
