I think Tom Cruise was the wrong pick for the movie. He should stick to the playing military types.

Still, I can't help but be reminded about the hard rock side of the 80's.

Worth a watch. I was hesitant.

You had to be really into hair bands in the 80's to get anything out of it. That's really the only part of the whole movie that was worth anything.

I go back to ( In no particular order):

Alice Cooper
Bon-Jovi
The Scorpions
Iron Maiden
White Snake
Cinderella
Stix
Motley Crue
Ozzy
Warrant
Ratt
Van Halen

and a lot of others that I've failed to mention.

The movie made think back to all of that.

I watched PART of Rock of Ages and it was the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Why do I want to watch a fictional rock star lip synch other band's famous songs? I don't get the concept. I know Rock of Ages is a musical, but as a movie it's just garbage.

Saw this one mid last year. I actually thought Cruise was pretty decent in the roll Played a burned out rock star with a god complex to a "T" IMO? They could have done without that high pitched "Dancing with the Stars" reject Julianne Hough as the female lead though. Yeah, I know she's easy on the eyes, but her singing voice is like nails running down a chalk board. I cringed when I heard her bastardize David Lee Roth's "Just like Paradise"

Her love interest on the other hand....if that was him doing his own singing nailed it....bravo! That kid has chops. Out of nowhere and already more talented than Justine Bieber!

Noobz, if you want to see another excellent 80's hair band movie, check out 2001's Rock Star, with Mark Wahlberg. Probably to this still one of my top-10 favourites.

I'll have to check that out. I thought I'd seen just about everything with Mark Wahlberg in it.

Yeah, give it a watch. They play a lot of our favourite hair band music we grew up with. Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart and Jeff Scott Soto of Talisman do the vocals for Wahlberg in the film. The vocal ranges these guys demonstrate in the film are down right freaky!!!

Lol nope, never even seen it. I had completely forgot the movie existed until this thread.

I did however believe for a minute that Marky Mark actually sang in Rockstar, because of his musical background. I should've known better.

My favorite part of that movie which also kinda sucks is that Dagmara Dominczyk plays the part of the chick who's apparently a dude and wears his pants after the party. That girl is so damn hot.
