Ok, I know there was/is a thread on tranny fluid. But I dont want to hijack, and am looking for specific people/info.

I want to know of everyone who uses royal purple syncromesh (or any other RP types), and what it did vs stock, or vs other stuff. Im setting @ 39.6K miles, and still have the stock tranny fluid. the car has an issue with the 1-2nd shift (speed shift only), and mainly when its cold...but sometimes when its hot I will miss the gear (at the track too ). Also I cant powershift 4th W/O it missing...just stops.
You can tell that the tranny doesnt want to go in QUICKLY to a gear...or the syncros I should say. 3rd has 0 isses, unless I half heartedly speed shift and my foot is quicker than my shift (only on the street).

SOOO will this stuff make a difference for me, and drown out the 2nd gear grimlins? And am I over due at almost 40K?

Good thread. Im at the EXACT mileage as you and a tranny flush will be coming soon. Im undecided between RP Synchromesh or Redline ATF Im sure either will work great, but I want some opinions of people with experience.

I use Amsoil ATF and they promise that their fluid will run cooler (by up to 50 degrees cooler) without a tranny cooler and last 3 times longer than conventional fluids. After I had it put in my car, my transmission shifts felt extremely slippery, smooth and lubricated. Love it.

It isn't Royal Purple, but I think a good alternative to look into for transmission fluids.

slippery, smooth, and lubricated....hmm anyways...royal purple will NOT hurt anything, so what have you got to lose? You probably need to change the fluid anyways, so why not use royal purple in the tranny, the motor, and the rearend, throw it on the dyno and tell us if you hit 300 hp.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Im VERY particular about what goes in my motor..motorcraft only.
RP is already in the rearend.

From how it sounds, the stock fluid SUCKS...so keep the confirmations coming lol.

Yea Helty, I too would probably be split between the two....but i guess I just really want the RP lol. I could also get amsoil at cost (friends a dealer )if I wanted it...only heard good things about it. But I really dont trust it for 1 reason.

If its that good, why are they relying on a pyrimid style buisnees to sell it? Seems like they would sell alot more in stores...same for RP.

BTW they had a dyno where a 99ish Z28 (ls1) gained 9RWHP simply by changing all the fluids (tranny, engine, rear) to RP. So maybe 3 for me. 295? lol

I used RP in my engine for 3 oil change cycles. Didnt notice a difference in performance (not that I expected to), but it was still very clean when I drained it (motorcraft filter ). Engine ran smooth when I had it, but then I started hearing a few people talk smack about RP. They didnt have anything to base their claims, but just because Im very particular about whats in my stang, I went back to Mobil 1 until I hear something that convinces me otherwise.

I agree with Mobil 1, although I've hear good things about RP. Mobil will be in my rear end and should be going in my tranny soon..

+1 for Mobil 1, my car's had Mobil 1 since the Motorcraft oil was replaced. I've got to do my tranny and was considering Mobil 1 oil or RP. Any difference between the two? Or should I just go with Mobil 1?

I put Royal Purple in at 9k miles when I put in my MGW. Haven't missed a shift since I did the change around Christmas. I don't powershift, but I've been very pleased with the combo and would do it again.

I know I don't have the same trans that you guys have, I have the T-45. I just thought I'd let you know that I was missing the first to second shift as well and it had RP in it. I don't really think it's the fluid you put in the transmission that makes the huge difference, I just think there is an art to perfecting the shifts with our tranny's.

I recently rebuilt my tranny and when I had her all apart, the only problem I found was one of the Z-links broke because I tried slamming it into second. I rebuilt it with T-56 blocking rings, inserts and springs, so hopefully that will help my grinding problem. The second gear blocker was very weak. I didn't have any teeth missing, but when I took it out I could peel the teeth off...I think that was the main source of my problem. I will have the tranny in next weekend and will let you guys know how she feels.
