as for gain hp maybe on the high end... but you will lose alot of torque on the low because of the lack of backpressure...

My buddy ran his car around the block like that to see how it was before the rest of the exhaust was put on. He said it ran like crap.

You'd have no cats, no backpressure, no feedback to the computer on closed loop.. it would definitely run like crap without a tune (and even a tune would be a band-aid tune).

Would probably be pretty damn loud I would imagine

I have a couple buddys who race chevy 388s. They run long tubes with an 18" piece of striaght pipe. Not sure what length you would need for your engine though.

Isnt it dangerous running with that little back pressure on these motors? i have heard about burning valves and some other experiences...but like I said I have only "heard" these things, not sure if there is any truth to the myth.

save the lts and straightpipes for the chevys, all it does is make the car loud,it will be slow as a dog and have no acceleration, sound like poop when you let of and downshift and it has the potential of damaging parts

Yes the collector extensions diameter and length need to be matched to the engines power curve, weight of the vehicle, gear ratios of the vehicle. trans type and if automatic stall speed just as with a carb and distributor you will need to tune the fuel and timing curves .

Well, i have "Dump Tubes" on my car and right after the headers i have some cut out pipes with some pipe caps on them... when i take them off the car is just really loud, but seems to pull harder up top and seem like it has more power.. maybe its just me and the noise makes me THINK its faster or something i have no track times to prove me either way, but i dont notice that it runs like crap or anything.. just my imput.. what do you think?

Would you do it if it did?

Anyway, its a bad idea because:
-it sounds like azz
-it reduces backpressure
-it reduces off the line grunt (moves it up top though)
-cold air sucking back into the pipes can warp an exhaust valve

Also I am not sure but I think that some technical problem can be caused with the piston rings if there is not sufficient backpressure

+1, really would recommend against it, if not for technical reasons it would just sound like crap.
