sanding the interior

I gutted the interior and am in the process of sanding down all the paint and surface rust. Any tips? I was considering buying a sand blaster but the mess it makes seems daunting. I don't have a booth, just my garage with other stuff in it. Right now I am using a wire wheel on a drill and it is taking forever. I also picked up some Rust/Paint removing wheel that isn't much better then a wire wheel. Looks like black plastic bread disc. It is just taking so long. The car only has one area of rust so I don't want to have to replace the entire floor boards.

Sanding the dash you will be fine. Be careful on the doors. If you are too aggressive, you will sand the krinkle finish smooth. I'd probably use stripper and clean it up with some steel wool.

what grit would work the best for getting the paint off without marring the textured metal?

I am thinking that laquer thinner and a coarse pad would take it down a bit.

anything better then a drill a wire brush? Anything at all? Should I get a sand blaster?

personally I wouldnt use the sand blaster. I would be to worried about warping the metal, or taking off to much metal.

Plus it is a complete and total bitch to clean up afterwards. You will have blasting material in every crack and crevice.

IMO its not worth it for the amount of time saved.

pick up some aircraft stripper,that way you dont lose the grain.

yeah, it looked kind of wierd.

plus it wasnt to smooth, it still had the crinkled but it was mostly filled in.

The guy filled it with primer, and didnt realize it would do that.

I have never had a whole lot of success with it. I usually have a goey mess, and have to hit it with a wire wheel or sand paper.

But that was on the excterior paint. which has at least 3 layers of previous paint jobs.
