Hey guys

My girlfriend and I are looking at S.C. for a possible place to move in the near future, so I wanna get some words of wisdom on where to look, where not to look, what's good, what's bad, all that stuff.

We're so far liking the following areas: Greenville area, Rock Hill, Fort Mill, Columbia area. For the two major cities we'd most likely look for a place in the outer limits in a nice little town rather than be in the huge mix of things.

Just looking for any kinda views I can get, we won't be able to make a trip out there to see for ourselves for quite a while!

Thanks in advance

My wife and I live in Greenville. Love it. The downtown area is really developed with plenty to do and investors are dumping more and more money into it every day. For instance: there is a building of condo's that started construction about 4 months ago and you can't buy a unit if you wanted to, they're all sold out. It's the third one like it they are building and the units sell at $500,000 a pop! We've got a Redsox farm league baseball team with an exact replica of Fenway in our downtown as well.
Surrounding areas would include Powdersville, Easley, Greer, Taylors, Mauldin, Simpsonville, Fountain Inn, and several others I can't think of right now. Anyhow, the area is awesome. Only an hour from the mountains or any of a couple of lakes and 3 or so from the ocean. We're a little higher in elevation so we dont' get quite as humid as the middle of the state (Columbia). Don't get me wrong, it's still hot as Africa here. We also get to see all four seasons. Anymore questions let me know. Greenville and the surrounding area has my endorsement.

Thanks Venom Someone else recently told me about the way the seasons change. That's awesome. We have similar summers, but they aren't long. We have harsh winters and they drag to half the year. Spring and fall are both great though, but along with summer they make up about half the year. It sucks.

I'll see what questions she has and come back. I'm too forgetful to remember to find out what I should

Dude, I just noticed you're from Massatwo****s. I lived in Frammingham the first 10 years of my life. If you do move here we'll have to watch some Pat's games...like I said, plenty of places to go and watch some football or whatever sport you like.

If you make it up to a Hurricanes game, give a shout. I go to most the games and we usually try to get some tailgating in pre-game.

I live in Sumter, SC-about 30 minutes East of Columbia. Our town is really small, but we have one of the best tuners around (Dave Moore-www.badassfast.com). You dollar will stretch further here than in Columbia. A $150,000 home here will probably cost at least $200K there for similar size. Your best bet is to live in the outskirts of the major cities you choose. Between Charlotte and Columbia is good also. Ft. Mill has Carowinds amusement park, and pro-dyno. The rock as well. Their link is http://www.pro-dyno.net/

It's always good to have a shop in the area.

nosjunke, that's definitely the plan - to live outside the major areas. I think I said that earlier, not sure. I have a thread about this going elsewhere too. Anyway, that's very good to hear that there's a good tuner in the area! Never know when I'll swap setups and need a new tune. Extra good if we end up in Fort Mill and have one guy in town. Thanks for the tips

I saw Carowinds online but didn't know it was so close to that area I was looking at. Very cool

Landrum SC would be my pick. Right at the foothills yet close to Spartanburg and Greenville but removed from the hustle and bustle.

BTW, does anyone know what happened to the Upstate Mustang Club message board?

I'll look into Landrum too. Thanks for the mention.

Hopefully early next year we can schedule a little trip down there to see what it's like for a week or so. Whenever we get there I wanna get around and do a whole lot of everything to get a feel for as much of the areas as I can. Anything real special or cool in or between Greenville-Columbia that we should hit up?

Just a little. THat's the latest area we've taken interest in but haven't been able to do much searching online about the area except for what I mentioned in here.

Regarding the metro area of Charleston, are there any cities or towns I'd want to stay away from?

I live in Goose Creek (just north of Charleston) and it seems to be pretty good. I'd suggest Summerville or Mount Pleasant if you're looking at Charleston. Do not go to North Charleston as that is a rough area. Summerville/Ladson seem to be a quiet area with a lot of history. There is also a great Mustang shop here in Charleston which I use and I trust them with just about anything. Everyone in the clubs here use him for their work and he's done a fantastic job.

THanks for the tip

It was actually Columbia that we were looking at as not so much Charleston. Anything anyone can say about that area? Nice outside towns and bad ones? Mustang folk and clubs and such are a nice plus

I would probably do NW Columbia, as it is the new and upcoming area. The other surrounding areas are pretty beat up. It you have google earth try looking up Harbison dr, Columbia, SC, or if you google map it, you can type that in and see it's NW from Columbia. I live about an hour away and we go there as a family at least once every two weeks.

Greenville and surrounding areas gets my vote, but hey I've lived round here all my life..LOL
But being real here.... downtown is great with it's mixture of bars, night spots and restaurants. You are within an hour from the mountains, for the wonderful falls colors and playing in the curves if you are like me. If you are into drag racing, well there are 3 1/8 mile tracks with in an hours drive..Shadyside, Greer, and Ware Shoals; Plus Atlanta Dragway is bout an hour away also. Myrtle Beach is a 4 hour trip, and home to the best dang Mustang event on the East Coast..MUSTANGWEEK.
Schools....If you have/plan on having kids there are some great privite schools in the area, along with Clemson, South Carolina and Furman all close by.

And to top it off..you could join our club..www.southeasternfoxbodies.com

The coast

here is cool - boating, fishing and consuming beer on the sandbar. It's about shrimping season. No real winter, but it's been hot here. Hilton Head is 45 min. from here and Charleston 50 min. Homes here are not cheap, but appreciate $20k-$30k/yr. Downtown Beaufort has cool bars, good food and a lot of history. Oh, and the beach is 15 min. from the house. My GM buddy has a marina on HHI - going there tomorrow and hang at the beach club.
