Hello all. I'm new to this site, and glad to be here.
I have a conundrum...
I picked up an 87' 5.0 hatchback off the outdoor trader just a week ago, so I'm just getting started on it today.
Just bought a Steeda Short throw, on the way home from work.
I get everything out of the way, and then I realize that the transmission has to have been swapped, because the bolt pattern for the shifter is all wrong. Definitely not the T5 I expected. I've attached a pic... Anyone have any idea as to what tranny this is? I'm currently not able to lift it up and climb under to find out, because I'll need a low profile jack before getting under this guy.

You got lucky; that's a Tremec 3550, or TKO or TKO500 or TKO600. Any one of which is light years better than any production T5.

Tremec 3550/TKO /TKO500/TKO600 AFTERMARKET replacement for T5 - handles racing environments with ease

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/tremec.asp for more information - check out the "Light Duty" group, since TTC makes monster transmissions for big trucks as well as passenger cars.

See http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/onlineorder/product.asp to download a FREE service manual for T5 or Tremec 3550/TKO
You will need the Adobe Acrobat viewer which is also a free download – http://get.adobe.com/reader/

I have a Tremec 3550 that I have driven for more than 10 years. It still shifts fast, and smooth, I never lift off the throttle to shift and it never complains or gives me problems. As long as you run the correct lubricant and the right amount of it, they are almost bulletproof.

I have an MGW shifter on mine and I highly recommend it; short throw, smooth action, precision feel to it.

I appreciate it! I will definitely look for the shifter. I almost swapped out the Steeda I bought for the right one, but they didn't have it in stock, so I picked up a new aluminum radiator and overflow instead. Unfortunately the last owner spent more time on the exhaust than the basics, but at least I can upgrade those too as I go!
