Sear's BLOWS!!!!!!

Well, i went to sears today to get my old tires on my new rims, and have them balanced and what not. I get there around 2:15, they say it will be around one hour, and he quoted me ~60 dollars on the phone, well since they are soooo huge (17 inch) they cost more, total~80. I go **** around in the mall for about an hour, come back, only ONE tire is done.

I stay in there and watch them, the guy comes up and says that one lug nut won't come off, and one of the things the lug's screw onto is striped The douchebag tells me that the thing the lug screws onto is going to snap off soon and he says he can keep trying to get the lug off with the impact wrench and hes smiling while he is saying this, i just stare at him and say NO. (they get commmision for shtt they sale)

I wait around for another 45minutes, while they get a total of 3 on, with one old tribar still on in the back (b/c of second paragraph)

I tell those ***ers i'm gonna drive down about a mile down the road to my uncles garage, he sprays a little penetrating grease on the 'stuck' lug nut and after about a minute it comes right off. Now i go back up to that shtt-hole they call "Sears" and have to wait another 20minutes b/c they started on another project. Finally they get the last wheel on and when the guy is backing my car out of the garage, he STALLS IT

I stopped trusting them to even do my battery anymore. Only thing I do there now is buy their nice tools.

HEHE, I have a better story about Sears. I used to live about two miles from a Sears, and everytime there was good weather on the weekend there would be this old guy standing at the corner of the major intersection (the edge of the Sears parking lot) with a sign that said "Do not shop at Sears". I always took him for some nut job that didn't have anything better to do. So I see him out there on twenty or thirty seperate occasions, and I finally decide to see what his deal is. I didn't have anything better to do at the time, so I whip it up in the parking lot, and ask the old guy what it's all about. It turns out the guy was very nice...
He tells me that he had worked at that particular Sears for 30+ years. He had started sweeping the floors, and worked his way up to the assistant manager of that location, never written up, always to work on time, ect. Then two weeks before he was set to retire he said they started writing him up for stuff like "tie not straight", and others , and a couple days before he was to retire, he was terminated with no compensation package. It was a pretty sad story. It's been about 8 years now, so I can't remember all the details. I don't know if they paid him off, or if he just gave up because I haven't seen him out there since a couple weeks after I talked to him.

I've had mostly good dealings with Sears. The thing I had go wrong once was when I had to get a set of tires rotated. Brand new wheels and tires. First rotation done on these tires- with brand new lug nuts mind you- and they break a freakin lug nut and now I have to replace the lug. Prolly not there fault since the the lug nuts were most likely cheap since I discovered they were already starting to rust after there first 6000 miles.

That sucks, I have never taken the stang to Sears to get it worked on. For tire stuff, I take it to the Goodyear store here. I do love Sears for their tools though. I always tell my friends if they ever want to get me a gift, just get me a Sears gift card. I swear I could blow a million dollars in there.

I've only had good experiences with sears...but all I do is buy tools there. Craftsman is awesome! Broke 2 ratches, decided to buy a craftsman, and it worked great, didn't break.

I mount tires all day where I work (service station) and it doesnt take over 30 minutes to dismount, mount, and balance 4 tires. Getting 275's on an 8" wide rim is tricky, but it doesnt take any longer than any other tire out there.

i broke my craftsman breaker bar that was at least 30 years old, went in, they hand me a brand new $40 tool. no questions asked. i loved it because anywhere else you need a receipt.

I found out where a lot of the local stang and vette owners go, before I was going to pay for work on my car. Big difference and the work is always quick and accurate. No BS at all.

I'd ask around if I were you. Going to the mall for tires just sounds wrong. Gotta love that about Sears.....nearly all of them are attached to a mall.

Most tire shops charge more for special applications (17"+ wheels) because the sidewall is generally smaller making it harder to get the tire off and increasing the chance of messing up the wheels. Also most people dont like hammer on weights on the outside lip of the wheel, so they have to use tape weights on the inside.

Lug nuts and studs get stripped out all the time. By telling you that it might break before it does keeps them from having to pay for it. If they would have continued to pull the lugnut off and the stud broke, you would have insisted that they replace it at no cost to you. This step keeps them from being responsible for the broken stud. Also the tire changers dont make comission off of parts, only the salesperson does. And they only make 1/2% off the total cost. So if your new lugnut and stud were to cost you $5.00, they would make $0.025 off of you. I seriously doubt they were trying to rip you off.

So by going to your uncles shop you actually did them a favor. Now they dont have to waste time trying to get your lugnut off and they can work on another car while you were gone. "Time is money" and that only makes them more money. Id keep an eye out in the mailbox for a "thank you" card from Sears.
