Has anyone put in a shoulder strap upgrade in thier car? I have a 1968 mustang that I want to put this in and hope to have feedback from others that have done this.

K.A.R. Autogroup has kits for fastbacks and convertibles -- there are lots of pictures for ideas at least.

I have thought about it, but have not done it. What I really don't like is the non-locking seatbacks in the early cars. (and no headrest).

I have actually put them in mine, but they are "Made in China" junk. They work, but I would rather have high end quality seat belts since I am betting my life on them. The best ones I have found are the seat belts that come in Hummers.

My friend (a full-time, self-employed mustang restorer) custom installed front and rear shoulder harnesses in a customer's 65 coupe. He used seatbelts from an '84 mustang and fed the front shoulder harnesses down through the top of the inside quarter trim to an anchor he fabbed at the bottom. With the plastic ferrel from the '84 installed to guide it through the top of the panel and another steel reinforcement flush to the inside of the panel, the whole system looked factory. The rear harnesses were installed much the same with the straps being guided through reinforcements under the package tray and all the reels were out of vision. I saw the install at various stages through the project and there didn't appear to be any magic involved.

Good thread. I've wanted to ask this too. I need shoulder belts for my '65, and I don't want to have to cut the headliner. Most I've seen attach to the upper portion of the door jab. Here are a couple of links to some I'm considering, but they're a little pricey (beats being impaled by the steering shaft though !!) I wouldn't mind finding a factory set-up I could install if someone knows of one. I'll check the '84 Fox's as mentioned above.

I wish I did, really I do, but it belonged to a customer of his and I haven't seen it since it passed emissions testing and was happily driven home. It was a two year restoration, so he was eager to get his car.
