Seat Pan Relocaton - Anybody done this?

My car is (this close) to getting primed, blocked, and primed. I need to relocate my seat pans. Now. Before I paint it.

Mustangs Plus claims they relocated them 2" down. Has anyone else done this?

Any handy tech tips?

Lowering Seat Pans

Yep, I did it. My aftermarket Cobra Daytona seats definitely needed to be lowered, and it's still a bit tight. I think I ended up getting the seat pans 1.75" lower. I drilled out the spot welds on the trans tunnel and rocker panels, but I just cut the seat pan to floor attachment with a cut off wheel.

I have minimal metal experience, and I got it all done in one weekend.

I followed the instructions of the link provide above. It helped some, but really didn't give me what I needed for knee clearance to push a clutch pedal (I'm 6'3" and on the gray side of life).

To solve my problem, I made extension brackets that move the seats to the rear. I found that 2" of rearward travel made all the difference in the world. With both the pan mod and the brackets, I now have ample room while in the cockpit. I can even wear a helmet comfortably, if that is consideration.

I'm 6'5" and in the same spot. I had to turn the door handle around 180 degrees so I wouldn't open the door when I hit the clutch......

I'm going to move them down 2" and back 1 1/2" and pray a little.

I would like to lower my seat pans as well but I have a convertible. I assume that this modification will only work for a coupe or fastback because of the full width seat frame on a convertible. Has anybody ever done this or is it possible on my car?

You may not want to do what I did, but I removed the adjusting bracketry from the aftermarket seats and fabbed a mount from flat stock. The seat lowered about 1" and was enough for me. At 6'5", you may need more than what the seat pan lowering offers, so that's another option, if needed.

I have made this modification also and it is very easy. I lowered mine as far as the reinforcement brackets for the seat bolts would allow and ended up with about 1.75 inched of total drop. I also added an additional reinforcement under the seat pan that I attached to the sub frame. I will try to find a picture if anyone is interested.

I lowered mine about 1.5" and have the Procar Rally seats. Wished I had lowered them a little more.

we did one for a S.D. Charger Football player that was 6'4" ....180lbs

lowered the seat pan to 3/4" off the floor in the front and 1/4" in the rear off the floor in the rear and pushed back 5-6". we ended up putting Pro Car Elites in which only gave him about 3" of tilt back room before hitting the inner fiberglass rear qtr in the fastback. He was able to push in the clutch all the way without any problems and let off the clutch pedal and not hit his knee on the steering wheel.

i ripped out the seat pan entirely on my 66.. built a 1" bx tubing frame to bolt to under the car. the frame is welded to the floor. Im using 02 GT seats

are you using the '02 rails? have pics of how the seats sit and the mounts?

I did it in my convert. I have the stock pony interior and took the lower frame apart and cut and welded it to be lower, got like a inch, then went to summit and bought seat tracks, these tracks worked well as they made the seats move back another 2 inches. I also modified the ( fore and aft ) handle to look like its stock.
I didnt like the cutting of the seat platform for a convert. because its one piece and a stucture part.

yep... power drivers seat and manual passenger.

no pics of th brace but its basically a rectangle made of 1" box 1/8" wall with a couple cross supports

If you just want to relocate the seat rearward I have a Word document that shows you how to make a set of adapters that bolt between the factory tracks and the seat. No welding required, about $25 worth of parts. Seat still moves fore-and-aft. Moves the seat back 2.5 inches.
