Should I take my GT to the dealership?

My 3000 mile check up is coming up soon. I was just wondering if you guys thought I should take my car to the dealership for this, oil change,.. etc. I am used to changing my oil myself. Also do you change your oil every 3000 or 5000, my manual actually says 5000 miles.

It's probably easier and cheaper to do yourself. I had to take my car for an inspection, then they come out and tell you things like your steering fluid is dirty and should be replaced, and try to get you to buy other stuff. Save yourself the hassle. I change mine every 3-5,000 miles, and I've had no problems.

DIY - but change it as often as possible. Once you get into the routine, it's really pretty easy and you'll feel better knowing the blood in your horse is fresh.
And, on a new motor, I'd change it ASAP!!! You've quite possibly got some metal debris in there...casting shavings, fragments, little bits of this and that.
Avoid Fram oil filters-studies done prove this is a piece of crap) and stay away from full synthetic til your next oil change to allow your engine to completely break in.
Motorcraft oil filters are good. I use the K&N oil filter simply because of the nut on the end that makes it easier to remove. I also use Mobil 1 0w-20 in both GTs.

Ok I am going to take the stang out for a cruse around the block, (she likes the cool night air ), and when I get back I want some more answers da#@ it! LOL j/k . Thanks to those who have replied already.

ya just get a good dino oil, castrol is a good brand and use that with a motorcraft filter for this change, then switch to mobil 1 with the motorcraft filter and youre good to go. i change mine every 3-5k miles.

I personally plan on taking my 04 to the dealership for it's first change. Why? Because I live in a freakin' desert, and I'd rather them tell me something's broken early, versus me finding that out for myself when the odometer hits 36,001 miles.

That is a good point but what are they going to really look at. Probably just change the oil and that's it. And we all know they don't put their master mechanics on this task. It is usually some minmum wage person who barely knows how to turn a wrench. I will probably take mine in too, but I just don't like anyone messing with my car but me!

P.S. No offense to min wage. I was once there myself. I just don't like the idea of someone at that level messing with my new car! Then again maybe I am wrong and dealerships use good mechanics. My experience has been with the oil change places around town.

I did my first oil change at 1,500 and I'll be doing the 2nd 1 next week at 3,000 then every 3,000 after that. I always use Motorcraft oil filters that way if something happens and Ford blames it on the oil filter I got an ACE in the hole. I've used Valvoline oil for all of the 16 years I've been driving and doing my own oil changes. I don't buy that B.S. about synthetic oil. Save you money for mods!
