I had the stock passenger seat from my old '95 taking up space in the shop, and decided to make a desk chair out of it. I have been searching for a nice, sturdy base for it for a year and finally hit the jackpot! I work at West Elm, an expensive contemporary furniture store, and they were throwing away a $300 leather desk chair because there was a tear in the leather, but the chrome base was mint so my manager let me have it. I welded a bracket together to mate the seat and the base, then I bolted it all together. Here is the finished product. Enjoy!

Nope, the pics are kinda deceiving because of the angle, but I actually mounted the base so my ass is directly over the center of the base. I can recline the seat fully and lean back and it doesn't tip backward.

That is badass!! I would love to use a race seat, but this project didn't cost me a cent besides a few hours of cutting, grinding, and welding time. Nonetheless, your chair is dirty! I love the red!

I made a bracket that mounted to the original mounting bolt holes on the seat that converges into the center of the chair where I drilled 4 holes and bolted on the base I got. All you need is a wheeled base from an old desk chair, a car seat, some sort of a bracket to mate the two parts, and some fasteners. One thing I might add is because the seat itself is slightly heavier than most other desk chairs, I used 2" diameter fender washers on the bolts that hold the base to the bracket, just to keep it a little more sturdy.

That is great! I like the mouse pad as much as the chair!

p.s. All the desk chairs are great! I think I may have to try and make one sometime soon.

I've got one that I made out of a Fox GT seat about 5 years ago. So comfy! A 9v battery operates lumbar!
