intake silencer? if your intake is stock, it should be in between the back of the air box and the mass air meter. usually they are a screen of some sort.
not sure of the gains on a regular cobra, but i know on a 03' cobra, there have been gains of 15 rwhp!

You sound like me a month ago! If you do have the stock air intake(I did on my 97) unclamp the filter from the intake tube. you might also have to remove a simple bolt from your inner fender, you will see it. Then pull up on the filter box(the part that holds,or surrounds the filter). It will still be held down by two rubber grommets under the filter box. just pull it will come out. then remove the part that goes into your fender. That is the silencer kinda L shaped. Then put it back together. I removed mine, and left in the oem filter. I did notice a small difference in exhaust sound, and it revved up a tiny bit faster. But for free why not? If you are tempted to get a k&n filter to replace the stock one, you will probably notice a bigger difference, but for 150 bucks you could put on a cold air kit. Just a filter will run around 45-50 dollars. Ask away with the questions someone around has done it before. good luck

I did the same thing but just yanked it out without disconnecting anything... I have an 03 but I think the air intake is the same?? I did notice a difference after.
