simple SVT engine question

ON the passenger side valve covers they have the "hand built....SVT Ford..." plaque that have the engraved names of the builders, or inspectors ect. Right above one name it says "romeo" and above the other it says "niche-line"

Anybody know what they mean? was just curious about it....also are all of the names the same on them or do they differ? mine says "Dave Berry" and "john Hanna" I think....

Just one of those late night "hummmm...I wonder" questions

Dave Berry and John Hanna assembled your engine in the Romeo engine plant's niche (specialty) assembly line. I don't know how may guys work there, but each one gets to sign their name to their work.

Yep, each Cobra motor is hand built by 2 guys at the Romeo plant...They may have moved it though back to Windsor if I remember right for the 06 Cobra...could be wrong with that though...

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I remember that the Romeo plant's niche line for the 4.6 DOHC hand-built engines consisted of (12) 2 man teams. I may be wrong.

Lets see...for argument sake lets say that 03 production run was 13000 even. divided by 12 = 1083 engines per team. my car was last of the run that ended july 31 03, probably started Sept 02? lets say 10 month production run. that = means 1083/10 = 108 a month, say five days a week for a total of 20 work days in a month = 5.4 engines a day. Dosent seem like such a fun job afterall....lol...i wonder if they do it assemly line style though and it passes infront of them for certian parts that their crew puts on. That seems more reasonable.

Nope. They assemble the entire engine from start to finish.

Yep, that's right.

There are several subassemblies that come to them already done, though. The heads, for instance, are fully assembled and the engine guys mount 'em and torque 'em down.

There's more than 12 2-man teams. In fact, one of the two man teams is actually a man & woman team. There was a great write-up with pics over on SVTPerformance.com a month or so ago. A local SVTOA chapter went through the whole Niche-Line.

My engine was assembled by doctors because I can't read either of the sigantures!!!

I bet that is the job to have, working for Ford, in the SVT engine dept, they may all have doctorates! then again doctors like to leave things in patients...lol
