Sirius Question...

Well I am in the process of ordering an 07 GT and I want sirius radio. The only problem is that big plastic antenna that is mounted on the trunk. If I decide to not get the factory sirius installed can I install an aftermarket system that is conrolled through the shaker 500 radio. I already have an aftermarket unit that uses an fm modulator and mounts to the window but I am not a fan of them.

I'm not sure about any aftermarket systems that will interface with the Shaker 500. All satellite radios have some sort of ugly exterior antenna as far as I know so I'd just get the one from Ford that you know will work. I've got it on my car and although I didn't originally want it I've since grown used to the little bump on the trunk. So many cars have them nowadays and the regular radio antenna is just as ugly if not more so, so why not get it?

The "bump" isn't too bad if u have a dark colored Mustang. But I agree w/ Power4, it could be worse. I think the antenna for the regualr radio is horrible looking. It takes away from the flow of the car. Those shorty billet antennas are much nicer though. Good luck with your order. You'll be happy either way just because it's a Mustang!

The antenna is not that bad. You will get used to it. You probably can add it later, but you will still have the antenna. It will be cheaper to get it from the factory to begin with unless you go aftermarket with the head unit too.
Ford's retail prices are ridiculous. Even dealer cost after sale is more than you can get some of the best aftermarket head units for. Get it to begin with.

If you get an aftermarket HU and Satellite you can control the placement ot the bump. I had mine placed near the wiper blades.

i got mine months after i bought the car. i got it off of ebay. (ford factory sirius module for shaker systems) $105 and it came with the tiny antenna and i had the installer mount it in the rear deck right under the glass. works great and is no where to be seen.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Do you have the part number for the module that is used for the shaker 500?

Thanks for the responses...The order is being "processed" tomorrow so i had to have my changes in today. I expect to see the car in a few months...

I got a pro fit bracket for mine, it mounts to the right of the stereo and works pretty well. The antenna was on the edge of the trunk lid but I just recently brought it inside the car, I mounted my antenna on one of the rear child seat safety loops.

I popped off the trim ring from the loop hole, I squeezed off the cap leaving just the ring itself and put the ring back over the hole. The antenna hooks onto the loop quite nicely and I found that even though it's inside the car I get on average a full bar more signal strength than before. I think where it was before the angle of the rear glass must have been affecting the signal somewhat. For the wire I ran it back next to the rise in the rear deck behind the rear seat headrest and then through a hole in the rear deck cover and through the trim on the way up to the front of the car.

Sorry I don't know the part number. Especially now that it's installed. Just hunt Ebay. and one will show up eventually. Don't buy pay the extra $$ from Ford. In fact, I am not sure you can even buy it from the Ford parts counter.

I recently purchased a 2007 with factory sirius. I ended up putting in an aftermarket head unit with ipod controls. I got a unit on clearance for $200. Added Sirius for $100. Ford's antenna will not work with other units and it is mounted by drilling through the trunk. I left it in place and mounted the new antenna under the rear trunk, visible only if you get on your back in the trunk. Good reception. My advice, forget the Ford unit and go aftermarket. The cost is less. Sound quality is better and you will have more inputs and controls.

Just buy an HD radio head unit. More stations, good quality, no antennas and NO monthly charge!
