New to the Fox Body (although not new to wrenching on sports cars) , I have been all over search and the net trying to research and find a solution to my issue. I have a 90 GT Auto that pulls good through first and second , then when it gets to third the rpms drop to about 1100 and it is very sluggish under any throttle until the rpms slowly climb to about 2000 then it seems to kick in behave as it should. I also hear during the sluggish pull from 1100-2000 rpm the sound that reminds me of a diesel engine under load.
This issue has been present since I purchased the car , things that I have done trying to track this down
-set timing to 10 degree above TDC
-new plugs gapped to 52
-new fuel filter
-new air filter
-new IAC valve
-clean intake holes
-clean MAF
-check for vacuum leaks
-test fuel pump , tested while driving , you can see the pressure increase when you hit 3rd gear and give it throttle
-New TPS sensor operating within spec
Auto trans when put in 1st , pulls hard thru the RPM range .
I am at a loss as to why it gets so sluggish when it hits 3rd gear .
Hopefully someone out there has seen this and has some suggestions as to how to get this Auto Trans Fox pulling good thru all the gears !
