I just installed new chrom valve covers on my 289, but after the installation i saw some smoke. the smoke is coming from the left header(when in the car), right where it ends. i thought oil was drippng on the header from the earlier installation of the valve covers, but it didnt look like anything was dripping. what could the problem be?

Agreed.

Drive it a couple of times. If it's still smoking, make another post.

Then you have a gasket leak. Make sure the torque is correct on the covers, but be carefull. Those bolts snap off just looking at them.
