have you checked your coolant lately?

lots of white smoke and backfiring sounds like headgasket to me

white smoke normally = coolant
black = fuel
blueish = oil

You said you just replaced your head gasket, but check the coolant again. My gf's old Tbird blew headgasket after headgasket (ford's legendary 3.8 motor, aka the headgasket killer).

ok sew situation now... after actually getting to check it out in daylight it is smoking blue. it looks like there is a little oil seeping around the header gasket on #4 and the plug is covered to. the little bit of backfiring was the timing thats taken care of. so whats with the oil?

Sounds like the valve cover gaskets to me. Your best bet would be to clean off the entire area with brake clean or engine gunk, then ooce dried, let the engine run for a bit and keep an eye on where it was showing up, that will give you a better direction to head in when it comes to ordering the gaskets.

White smoke typically signifies a lean condition.
