Tried searching but couldn't find anything to answer my question. I have a 95 Mustang that was converted to a 5.0 but is still has the factory 7.5" rear. I picked up a 2001 8.8" rear with 4.10s and a trac-loc for a great price from a buddy but it didn't include any of the brake setup or axle shafts. I know the sn95 axle shafts are too short but since the 99-04 axles have ABS rings can I put my stock sn95 axles in the 01 rear end without an ABS ring or will they still be too short? Would I still have ABS since the 95s don't have rings? Also, will my 95 calipers and rotors fit on the 01 housing?

Damn, I really had to think about this one, because I don't anything about the 7.5" diffs. I'm pretty sure the axle shafts won't work. A 99-04' 8.8 axle should be the same as a 95' 8.8 axle. It's a good time to get forged axle shafts anyway. I'm not sure about the brakes.

I have read that all 94-98s are the same size as are the 99-04s but the 94-98s are around 3/4" shorter. I would think that the ABS ring would take up around 3/4"-1" on the 99-04s so if I threw my 95 shafts in without ABS rings it would make up the difference. Not sure if my logic is right on it though because I haven't messed with too many Mustang axles.

ABS is an option on 94' and up Mustangs too, which also have the same ABS rings. So I gather that has nothing to do with the axles. If you put aftermarket axle shafts on your car, you have to specify whether or not you want them machined for ABS rings.

Ah, I was under the impression that the sn95s didn't have the rings for some reason. That clears it up then.

Your 7.5 axles will work on the 8.8 rear end. I have my old V6 axles in the 8.8 rear end, they fit like a glove.

Yup, rear caliper and caliper mount are identical between 7.5 and 8,8. Supposedly the Cobra's have a different caliper bracket, but the part numbers are identical. The bracket on the axle and the anti-moan bracket are the same for the V6 and GT, but the Cobra's are taller to accommodate the larger rotor.

Cobras have a thinner brake pad because the larger rotor is thicker than the V6/GT rotor. Otherwise the pad is identical. The hardware kits and all bolts are also identical.

The rubber brake line to each rear caliper is actually identical for V6, GT and Cobra. However, the hard line and center brake hose are different between the 7.5 and 8.8.

Just to be complete, the front brakes are also identical for the V6 and GT.

FYI 99-04 cars went from 12mm bolts to 14mm bolts on the lower control arms. I assume you will be getting aftermarket lowers so keep this in mind you may need to get a bit creative.

What he's asking is will his axls in his 7.5 fit the 2001 8.8 axle housing he just purchased. Since the housings are different lengths we're not sure they are going to work for him.

I do know for a fact that any 8.8 rear end housing from around 87-95 Mustangs are the same length and will interchange, but that's all I know about rearends pretty much.

Good catch, I was thinking 94-98 housings. The 94 V6/GT/Cobra axles will not work in the 99-04 housing.

It was my understanding that the 93 and earlier axle housings were narrower than ours by 3/4" (3/8" each side), though I do not know this for sure.

86-98 8.8 Housing are all identitcal. So if you can find one of those for a decent price all your 7.5 stuff will move over minus the differential and gears. Brakes, Axles will go over with no issue. For using the 01 Rear 8.8.. Its a no with using your 7.5 Equipment. My advice go look for a TurboCoupe rear end in a junk yard and get it. Usually cheaper than the Mustang 8.8's because most junkyards don't realize that there isn't a difference. Nice thing about the Turbo Coupe rear ends is they already have either 3.55 or 3.73 gears in the housing. So well worth looking into. Then put your 7.5 axles and brakes on it and call it a day.

While i'm on a role

If your doing the junk yard deal. Find an F150 between mid 90's till I believe 01 but don't quote me yet info at home. They have 31 Spline Differentials in them. Then just find a good deal on some aftermarket 31 Spline Axles and you have upgraded your rear end for a decent price and scrath that off your mod list.

Thanks for the info guys. I already have a 2001 8.8 with fairly new 4.10s and newly rebuilt trac-loc and was wanting to space the rear wheels out around 3/4" so I think it would be cheapest to just get axle shafts for this rear and go from there.
