my combo would be:

CHP 393 shortblock, which ever you choose, with the 7 qt pan..

Afr 205's and FTI cam from ed c
victor 5.8 intake
kooks headers, or mac 1-3/4 351 swap headers for time being

Yep it will be expensive, but done right the first time, drive and enjoy!

Also, with the custom cam you can get the drivability to power ratio that you want, which is really key for you since you drive your car daily right?

As far as the heads that would fit the motor size more...I would look at maybe 185's but prob. AFR 205's, TF highports, TF CNC 205's, TFSR.

I would call Ed. C and and pick a head and go with a cam from him. Even if you use the stockers or something cheaper at least that way your just a headgasket set from a matched combo. It will prob. run weaker with the starter heads, if you are planning to step up when money is there. However, it will at least run and run better than it does now.

I dont know how much the stroker would effect the cams needs but I would think that cam would be overkill on ported e7's. I would hate to have a cam that doesnt match the "starter" heads and then is still not good for what head you do plan to run...needing to swap cams.

I've watched your posts, here. Did you ever do a leakdown test? I know you are having problems with your current engine. My recommendation is to put a stock 302 back in it, as cheaply as possible and still reliable. (Used, low miles, don't pull the heads, drop it in and go. You should be able to swap tit for tat in, at most, a weekend.)
Once the car is on the road, build your 393(?) as you get the time/funds to do it right. I am certainly a fan of "do it once, do it right". I just can't always afford it.
The problem with rushing the install is something will go wrong and you'll either be stuck w/o transportation or worse.
Just my two cents.

That is not a bad idea reddy, not bad at all.

you could always sell that longblock prob. not much less than you picked it up for....esp. if you look for a exploder motors cheap and great parts.

Then you could build an awsome stroker.

my mechanic has been out of town the last few weeks. maybe he'll be back soon

i can still drive it and it seems to run fine, but it just burns oil like a mofo. i'm gonna pull the heads and see what the cylinders look like

my mother in law has said i can borrow her car that she never drives while i'm working on my car

i'll talk to ed about how the cam sounds.

other than the heads, how's the combo look?

You are going to want to make sure that the recip parts are balanced. Plan on that expense. My machine shop guy (high school buddy ) told me that the Scat and other "China Made" parts are well built but not balanced or "finished". (Minor casting flaws, some "not tapped" bolt holes, etc) You'll need to double check all components bought from different vendors too, to make sure they work properly together.

Sounds like this is going to be a learning experience for you. SWEET!!!!! Keep us posted concerning your progress!

well i think i came to my senses. this is not the time for a 393 yet. i think i should just rebuild my motor as practice for a 393 buildup later. This rebuild kit is only $310 shipped. i'll get a 306 from it.

i can also put in a blower cam if i still have the KB, or a NA cam that Ed recommends if i don't have the KB anymore.

then again, if i'm going to put the KB back on, then i probably should have lower compression. can the machine shop dish the pistons a little or increase the size of the chambers in the heads to lower the compression? i guess i'll have to decide about the blower sooner rather than later ...

I will say it again. Just rebuilt what you have and be done with it. Besides, here in MD, as you are aware of, the emissions testing will kill you. Just another headache to deal with. No only will the 393 build be expensive but the upkeep will be too. Just One Man's Opinion.

all looking good.. 'cept $800.00 for "prepped block" OMG!! save a bunch of money!! Get a used block ( junk yard 100-150.00) have it cleaned and bored with deck plate ( 175-200.00 ) install the cam bearings.. 35-45.00 ) and you do the rest!! ( 310.00 low.. $395.00 high) and you will experiance the short block tear down.. cool?? 800.00 is way too much for a W engine!!
