...and it stayed running. No changes what-so-ever. Isn't this a sign of a bad MAF? I thought it was supposed to die when you pulled the plug on it. My friend is bringing his back this afternoon to swap them out so I can see if that's it.

my car does not die but the cel comes on and it was a bitch to drive. about 6 months ago i accidentaly cut the wires and had to drive with it not hooked up for two days. driveability was horrible but it did not die and started fine when it was unplugged.

The stock engine won't die, but it will run like complete $hit with the MAF unplugged.

Well my engine's not really stock anymore. I guess basically what I'm asking is, does the fact that my engine ran the same with the MAF unplugged as it did with it plugged in, is this evidence of a bad MAF? I already got a CEL for my MAF, and I was pretty sure it was bad to begin with. I just wanna be sure.

I would say it's either a bad maf, or a problem with the wiring to the maf. You should know for sure when you try that other maf your friend bringing over.

If your car dies when you pull the spout connector as well, it is likely your computer is not getting a pip signal. Its usually a problem from the wire leading from the distributor, to the box with the spout connectir under the maf.

I had the same problem. Just a fyi.

I mighta said the wrong thing, I guess what happened was as I was driving a while back, the MAF popped off the inlet tube and the car started running extremely rough and then died and wouldnt start until i attatched it back which was odd.

Unplugging the MAF sends the computer into closed loop. The car should not die. While the car is running tap the MAF with the back of the screw driver once (on the housing, not the electronics). Do not do it real hard but comfortable enough. When you tap it and the motor stumbles then your MAF maybe a little toasty. Honestly C&L are pretty crappy on our cars. Find someone with a Pro-M and put it on yours (with the right cal). I had a crap load of problems with C&L's. Recals are a bandaid and not actual.
