First time poster with a huge dilemma!

I'm not sure what car I should go for, so I'm asking a bunch of strangers over the internet to give me some advice....sad, yes!!

2011 GT' Mustang with 5k-10k miles, roughly $24k-$25k ($7k down, 6yr, 2.84%) = $300ish a month
2013 GT Mustang totally bare bones roughly $30k with same down and % = $340-$350 a month

I've budgeted for the 11' and I know another $40-$50 a month isn't a big deal, but the thought of owning a Pony, MY PONY, without anyone else driving her seems worth the additional monthly hit (also the full warranty is a nice comfort too)

So, what would YOU do?

Thanks for indulging me!

I would go new. That way you know everything that has been done to the car. That includes all maintenance and how it was treated.

You're going to end up upgrading and throw the warranty out the door.

...if it were me... I 'd get the bare bones 2013 and add the things that I liked over time.

IMO (and I know that there's lots of folks that disagree) the grill and inducted hood on the '13 are the tits!

Probably because it's different than the grill on the 06 that I look at every day.

If the extra $50 amonth isn't going to bother you I'd say go new, but if it's not in the budget the 11's are nice also. Just be careful buying used, look over the car good. Being an 11 if you can find a set that still has factory tires on it, and are in good shape I would say that could be a sign it was taken care of at least have way decent and not ragged to hard.....But that still don't guarantee nothing, problem with buying used

I was looking at new & used. I ended up with a new '13. I don't regret it at all.

For $50 more a month I would likely go with the new car, but I would have to know how the '11 is equipped before I made a decision. For instance if the '11 is a Bembo car I would take that over a base '13.
BTW are you assuming the interest rate is the same, or were you quoted the same rate for both cars? The interest rate fora new car is normally lower then a used car .

If you can handle the extra payment, I'd go new. Warranty is a good thing. You can do lots of mods (eg, suspension, brakes, etc), that won't affect power train warranty, which is the big ticket expense that it protects against. And you don't need to mod the 5.0 to enjoy it.

I'd go used, but make sure there aren't any mods yet. Is there a difference with insurance?

Insurance is the same on a used 11' vs new 13'

For $40 a month having a NEW car that no one has touched AND a full warranty....so hard to pass up on

I had a local FORD dealer quote me on an ordered totally bare bones 13' for $30.5k OTD....I wonder if I can get them to lower that? They still have to be making something off that $30.5k

They can go lower. I got my GT, auto and brembos, for <32k OTD. The auto trans and brembos come out to around $3,700 iirc. There's a $1500 rebate currently offered on it.

Update....

I've got a potiential investment opportunity fall into my lap last night and it will require putting off buying my car for a month or two, possibly!

I figure if I can make an extra $3-5 k in a month and hardly doing a thing to make it, the car can wait.

So, what I'm going to do now is get internet offers on ordering a barebones GT from 6 or 7 local FORD dealers....put them all into a bidding war and the winner gets my order. The 8-10 weeks it takes to ship gives me more than enough time to use my down payment for this potiental investment deal.

Already have 3 dealers sent me offers and so far the best is $30.3k OTD.

This whole experience is turning out well, so far!

Thanks gents!!

It's a personal preference (do you like new or used, do you like the 2011 style or the 2013). What kind of options did the 2011 have on it? Was it bare-bones as well, or did it have some extras?

I'd personally buy the 2011, since I like that body style a little better. I think they also did away with the strut tower brace on the 2013s. The 2011 would still have about a year of bumper to bumper and about 3 years of powertrain warranty left, assuming it hasn't been modded.

Also, if you can swing a little more in monthly payments, you could just make higher than minimum payments on the 2011, and get it paid off faster. I've always had the philosophy that if it takes 6 years to pay for the car, you can't afford it, as I subscribe to the Dave Ramsey way of thinking, which makes me allergic to debt, particularly on a depreciating asset.

I'm not sure what that means specifically, but be careful of anything promising something for easy and nothing. Usually, the people that end up getting something easy for nothing are the ones selling those "investments" not the ones buying them.

Well, the potential return is from selling sports memorabilia collections, my hobby. Been buying and selling for years. I don't make a lot from it, but this particular collection is a juicy one. If it can be had for the right price I can see making $3k+ in less than a month with minimal effort.

As for the 11's and 13'...I've decided I want new. Yes, I know the second I drive it off the lot I lose $6k, but I'm not looking at my car as financial gain or loss....it's the price I'm willing to pay to get what I want. I have no kids, wife and a reasonable mortgage, so the payments are doable. It may be a 6 yr loan, but it will be paid off in 5 yrs or less

There is also the idea of buying a used car having no idea how it was treated. The full warranty, although it maybe never be used, is a nice "mind at ease" thing to have.

2011's, at least in the Seattle area, are more expensive than I originally thought and do not last long on lots. For $2-3k more I'd rather buy new (most used one's I was looking at were barebones.....leater and that was about it).

If the payments and insurance are right, the options are what you want, and the color is what you want...new is the way to go.

Again how is the '11 equipped? You havent't said. If its a stripped down base GT like the' 13 then without a doubt get the '13. But If the '11 is loaded especially if it has Brembos then I would go with that.

Most 11's I'm seeing are almost bare bones...they may have 1 additional feature, leather, or brembos or special seats (recaroes..or however they are spelled).

The issue I'm running into here in Seattle is that the Mustang is hugely popular here so prices are pretty firm.

Taking a look at a 13' Premium today....brembos, leather and I think that's it....but the dealer is asking $29.5...10 miles on it....so, I'm going to offer $29.5k OTD....see what they say

...A '13 Premium for under 30? TAKE IT! My 300A Brembo GT is that much. the Seattle to LA price discrepancy can't be that huge. Hell, I'll cancel my order and buy one as well.
