So who will be first to drop a new 5.0 in their S197?

It makes sense to shell out the $6,000 to get a stock 400+ horses that can easily be pushed up to 600+ but who is going to do it first?

It might make sense to wait for the Boss version of the 5.0 if you plan to use FI. I know that's what I would do. I would also love to have that exhaust from the Boss!

It's actually closer to $7k, the cheapest I've seen the 5.0 listed for is $6750. That also does not include the controls pack which is another $1500, and you have to have that to get an ECM to run the thing. Once you have all of that, you need full access to a shop to put it in, or shell out more $$ to pay someone to do it, and it isn't going to be a plug and play install either. The foot notes Ford put in the ads for the controls pack to run the engine say it requires a return fuel line style fuel system, plus using that ECM will create a no start condition, apparently the ECM in the controls pack doesn't play nice with the VATS in late model cars.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to put one in my car, it just doesn't "make sense" at this point because of the added cost over the price of the engine to get it installed and make it run, not when for 1/2 the cost you can just bolt a supercharger kit on a 3V 4.6 and be at least 50 HP over the stock 5.0.

EH..HEH. You haven't looked in the right place for the lowest price of the Coyote 5.0L!

Anyway you're right, the expense of the motor, alternator kit, trying to rig up power steering, control pack etc..... it's cheaper getting an getting a H.O. Whipple.

Um, Ford Motor Company already did. You see, the 2011 Mustang is still an S197, albeit a much improved version over our 2005-9 models.

Why would you waste time doing that? You would get more performance out of a nice forged 4.6 and a blower than you would out of a crate 5.0. Unless you're just looking for an excuse to slap 302 or 5.0 badges on the fender, I really don't see the point for the cost vs. bulding a nice 4.6 that the car is already configured for.

Probably when they start showing up in wrecking yards where someone can strip every part needed for less than the crate engine. Shouldn't take long for people to total a car with this much power.
