Very expensive for just the engine alone. Cheaper just to have a S/C installed, you would end up with more HP.

Not exactly true.

http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm

Complete engine /w shaker for $3k.

I imagine you'll need a couple different accessories than whats on your GT along with the computer, but that still not going to be much more than a good blower + install/tune, etc. I guess you will need the Mach hood though, so that does raise the price a decent amount.

Will have less HP in the end, but a LOT more potential N/A. I'm interested in doing it. Just waiting for people to wreck their Machs so I can buy this engine and then the rest of the parts from the junk yard.

Not sure but may get someone to verify. The Mach 1 engine is most like an 01 Cobra. The computer in 99+ can be reflashed for DOHC engine??You will need wiring harness for the knock sensors, maybe something else. Unless you just want a shaker hood and DOHC engine, get a Complete Cobra motor.

You can use your GT's computer. You just need a chip. If you forgo the shaker, you won't need a new hood. In total, you need about $175 in extra parts and little mods to get the motor work on your GT's wiring harness, trannym etc... I spent a total of $5300 which included my custom dyno tune.
The mach 1 motor is far stronger and has more potential than the 99-01 cobra motors. It's got the 03 cobra heads with an 01 cobra intake. Awesome, awesome motor.

Also with the mach 1 engine you have stronger internals for future mods. A good rebuild of the SOHC motor would cost you what the mach 1 engine does or more and you still wouldnt have the 4 valve. When the engine goes in the wifes GT we will be putting in a 99+ cobra engine or mach 1.

A forged SOHC longblock is around $5000. I can get a Cobra or Mach 1 engine for $3000 complete from intake to oil pan. That leaves me $2000 for the conversion and I will have a better engine for future mods.

Here is a website that walks you through a complete conversion from SOHC 4.6 to DOHC 4.6 . Its for the cobra variety but the process is the same.

http://www.cobrapoweredgt.com/index2.html

You can get this engine for $2995 all day long.

Just a note here, there is a lot of talk in this thread about stronger internals. This may or may not be true, but there was a thread here a while back pointing out that only the manual transmission Mach's have the forged crank, the automatic transmssions ones don't (Ford cutting cost on us again).

Yea the mach1 stick is more beefed up than the auto.

Listen to grunt man he has the motor, he did the swap. Its better then a s/c on a 2v. I just like to know how much hp the mach1 motor can hold up with not forged bottum. Would it be about 450-475rwhp like the 99+ cobra 4v's? That much hp meaning being a daily driver and lasting.

why are there even a such thing as manual tranny versions and auto versions. how would the type of tranny change the engine?

I'm guessing, don't quote me on it thought. But because with a stick you can rev it to 5000rpm and drop it. That is what i'm ASSUMING.

How come the Mach 1 engine is only $3000 brand new and the older Cobra engine is $5000 brand new? $2000 is a big difference. I thought the Mach 1 block was a little more powerful.

The 5sp machs have the some forged cranks that cobra engines have. The auto machs do not have a forged crank and also have a slightly lower redline. None of the 4v motors (except for the '03 cobras) have forged pistons or rods. These are the limiting factors with forced induction on these motors.

It has a forged crank for the manuals, but the rods and pistons are still the crappy style. Still, a good tune on a blown 4V like that has got to be plenty safe around 450RWHP, I belive that's what one guy got here from a Cobra Killer kit.

As for the forged/cast crank. The forged crank is a 8-bolt setup only on the manuals. The cast crank is a 6-bolt setup, Ford had to use the cast 6-bolt because a 6-bolt crank is what they need to put a torque converter and automatic tranny on it.
