Well got news today, they drove the car cold without Belts and the noise is still there....that cancel all beltdriven accessories out.
They also cancel Wheelbaring and stuck Brake parts out, because of the change of the sound if the clutch is pressed, they say it is "load" reletad and with that information i got send home.
There are only two and a half thing´s that come too my mind after all of that: Some Bearing on the Axle/Diff or the Driveshaft (i have no clue how to test it)
or something is rubbing somewhere but that seems od do to the load thing.
Yea, trying to keep my head busy, while the damn car sat in the parking lot for two weeks. I will not drive it untill i have a solution. My fear is, that something will block or get torn off while driving on the Autobahn at higher speed.
We restoring a 1966 Impala two door hard top. I curently try to get interior part´s (Impala-Bob seems to be a good adress) We also have a 1959 Doge Coronet there but it´s in very bad condetion( rust and we discoverd a crack in the 5.3l block -.-).
I hope your safe over there, the news here are full of claches between police and protesters...
Hi. Well-I was going to suggest that, the thing you have to remember when test driving it is whether it seems to ring out as a result of RPM. Or speed, meaning as you’re driving it, swap gears and see if the noise changes with speed or engine RPM
Therein lies the difficulty in diagnosing in how it acts as you’re going fast or slower, if a specific gear makes the noise louder, and if RPM related. Gosh, really sounded like a belt driven area, but- need to move o Hate process of elimination, but on a positive note you know have the Belt accessories are solid, and ruled out.
You replaced the pilot bearing when you reinstalled the clutch- right?
A quick test is spraying a ldecent amount of the spray-type lithium grease on the Clutch’s Throwout bearing to clutch finger area. Use care so it doesn’t end up on the clutch, pressure plate or flywheel mating surfaces. Then drive it. See if that quiets it down.
I have to text more later, leaving for Mom’s, will respond more then.
Greer. It’s getting me anxious, want this repaired so you can drive it. Try that. see what happens, then move on when you post that- k?
The squeal can be a dry or damaged bearing, or driveshaft hitting the exhaust when on the ground. Are you certain the rear end is full of lube?
The Trans?
Ok, talk later today-k?
- Smile my friend, we’ll catch it. It can be a large issue, more likely a simple one
Look for evidence marks on the driveshaft, spray lube over each exposed part assembly as you move on.
Wheel bearing is a possibility, if you pull a tire, preferably front, look for any rust colored debris around a wheel bearing.
What was the last thing done to the car before this started again?
Best, buddy!
