Does anyone know the difference between 20-gauge stainless steel and 30-gauge stainless steel? I found two difference websites and one says they carry the 20 and the other says they have 30. Which one would have the better looks, and which one should I get?

It's the thickness of the metal. Not sure what each gauge translates into size.

I have the UPR inserts on my car, they are about 1-1.5mm thick. The MUSTANG lettering on the rear bumper is recessed but these stick out slightly. Not sure i like the look if you looked from the side and saw them. After the fact, i would go with the thinnest gauge inserts they had.

Are you saying that the ones you have stick out too much? A pic would be nice to show what you mean if it's not too much trouble.

Thanks

Unfortunately i don't have a working camera right now.

They stick out. I'll stop at that. I wouldn't say too much. It doesn't bother me at all really, but they are raised higher than level with the rest of the bumper. Looking back, i would try to get the thinnest inserts i could, but in no way am i trying to say they look terrible. They look awesome. I get tons of compliements on it. I love the effect they play with the sun reflecting light down onto the road spelling out MUSTANG on the black top. Definite attention getter.

30 gage stainless is about .013 thick, and 20 gage is about .038 (about 3 times thicker).

Mine stick out a bit, but I would not say "too much".

I would agree with Mustang5L5. It probably is noticeable only to me, and only when I am washing it.

Also like Mustang5L5, if I had to do it over again, I would get thinner letters which are either even with the bumper, or slightly recessed.

that site offers 16 guage stainless steel inserts. so i take it you like the look of the inserts sticking out at you, going past flush with the bumper.

search on ebay and get them from fireandicechicks.com. Look just as good and about a third the cost of these other places.

Don't bother with the vinyl SS replica inserts. They don't even compare. I came out of the store today to find another GT parked next to mine with the vinyl SS inserts. They couldn't even hold a candle to my real SS inserts.

I would just like to emphsize that I am probably the only one that notices they stick out. You can't tell when the car is driving, i really only notice when i wash the car or i look at them for that reason.
