Hey guys...I have a problem with my car stalling and i am trying to figure out what the deal is. I drive an automatic 95' gt. My car starts fine but then when i am driving around for a while the car will stall. On the highway it happens and i sometimes can push the throttle down and it will start back up but lately thats not the case the check engine light comes on and it just dies. The car just shuts down like my power steering goes out. In town, I stop at the lights and i start to go and the car seems like it gets too much gas or something and just dies. but i dunno i am no car-savy guy. Also my car won't start back up for a while. So i got to thinking maybe its an overheating issue. I blew a fuse a while back the one that controls your wipers and wasn't sure if that controls your fan for your engine. but so far I have had my car in the shop twice now trying to figure out why my car just stalls. I first had the coil replaced because the hooks that held on the cable that ran to the spark plugs were gone like they had broken off. so they replaced that but my car still stalled. I took it into another shop and they said i had a lot of carbon buildup in the fuel system so they cleaned that all out but my car still stalls. Any ideas? i tried to give lots of info....

The way you describe the problem it's kinda hard to diagnose.

Every time the car stalls is it hard to crank?
Does it stall very often?
Does it stall everytime you let the car come to a idle in gear?
Does it try to stall when the A/C compressor kicks on?
How long (minutes) does it take before the car will restart?

Answer these questions that way we can better understand what is going on.

Start with pulling the codes.

Otherwise, you will have to do some quick tests of spark and injector pulsing when it craps out and won't restart.

Good luck.

The car cranks but will not turn over like get ready to start. It usually stalls after oh about 20-30 minutes on highway or else 15 minutes in town when your going and stopping all the time..doesn't stall all the time it goes in gear just random times after a little bit of use with the car. a/c doesn't work so its never on. usually 10 minutes or so for it to start back up.....I have also noticed that the car seems to heat up quickly and doesn't cool down which leads me to believe maybe its an overheating issue? what happens when a car overheats? does it just die and then after a lil rest it will start back up. maybe that will help a lil bit. Like i said before the fuse that controls the wipers i am not sure what else it controls blew and lit a lil fire one time and hasn't been replaced so i lost my wipers and i think it also controls the radiator fan in the front of the engine. but i could be wrong about that....Any other ideas????

Don't know what you mean by codes and i don't think anything ever popped up but i am not sure....if you mean they ran a computer diagnostic on it...

i think you would probably know it if your car overheated and died because of that. it scared me to death when my rad sprung a leak and it overheated. left me on the side of the rode. i had to get it towed and the next day i changed the oil and put more anti-freeze in the rad.(changed the oil because i thought i may have blown a head gasket or something and was looking for anti-freeze and did not know it was coming from the rad because i was 16 and was very upset the night before and didnt think to look,,lol) and it ran fine the next day. just poured coolant all over the place.

but maybe my case was just more severe than yours.

can you here your coolant boiling in the rad when it dies and is your temp gage pegged out?

just talking and trying to come up helpful info

Your CEL came on, which means a code should be stored. This is the place to start. These cars are complicated with many systems and the adaptive control makes symptoms tough to interpret at times. The self diagnostics help us figure out what's actually going on. The first step I'd take it getting the code(s).

Symptoms sound kind of similar to the problems ford had with the TFi modules that ended up in the class action suit. Ive seen it even on remote mount TFIs like in the sn95s. Though like was stated, if youre actually getting a check engine light youre luckier than most people. It should st least point you in a good direction on where the problem lies.
