Is it possible to put the starter wire on when the starter is already bolted into the bell housing, or was I supposed to leave the starter wire connected and leave starter resting on the front subframe

I’ve always connected the wire after the starter was bolted in. What year/engine car are we talking about?

Either way, with the wires connected I had to leave them loose to get them in the right place, I've mounted the starter first and put the wires on after too, not bad but I have long skinny hands/fingers.

I know this thread is a few days old but ill tell you what i do,this might also help someone reading this in the future, it does involve some extra work , on the passenger side when you take the wheel off there is a hole in the body that is a straight shot to the starter wire, at least my 91 Convertible has it.

Everytime i replace the starter i have hell with that wire and i just hate the whole process, here recently i decided to study the problem and find a alternative solution and that was it,i'm guessing its a hole thats part of the shock tower or somewhere in that vicinity? i had a picture but it was on my old phone that got lost.
