I joined Stangnet to get advice on building my 70. I found a guy on Craigslist that is parting out a couple of 2000 Mustang GTs. I would like to get one of the 8.8 rear ends to replace the stock 8". From what I've read so far, there is only a 1/4" difference in width. Has any one done this conversion and what should I watch out for.

Too much work to make it work when you can take your time to find a 9 inch and rebuild it/clean it up

You could 4 link it or simply weld on some spring perches and carve of the brackets you don't need. Have to get your pinion angle right and be concerned with the driveshaft mounting flange, but if you are converting to a 5 speed you could use the driveshaft from it and cut it down.
