I have a reputable shop here locally and they want to sell me Steeda under drive pulleys and the install for $300 out the door, or just the pulleys for $200. Is there a noticeable difference in power with the pulleys and is $100 reasonable for the install? I put some on a 93 GT about 7 years ago. I am trying to decide if it would be worth it just to pay someone else do it to avoid headache. What do you think?

I think 100 bucks sounds reasonable but its more fun just to get your hands a little dirty and do it yourself. I just ordered a set, paid 200 bucks for the set as well. When they arrive I'm going to print off the write up from our very own "BIG CAT" for the install and do it myself. And according to Big Cat you can feel the difference. Good luck with which ever way you go.

yep, the car revs much more quickly now, gives a good SOTP gain. i did not dyno them, but i say its definately worthe the $200. click the link in my signature for the Roush pulleys to see whats involved. its really pretty easy, but you do need some specialty tools that are available to rent from a local auto parts store. the Steeda pulleys require you to replace the stud that is trimmed for the Roush pulleys, but other than that, the install is nearly identical.

$100 is reasonable for installation labor.

I normally do things myself but I travel for work all the time and Im only home on the weekends. It is much easier to have someone else do it than for me to loose a weekend taking 2-3 hours vs. having some else do it in 1 hour.

I installed the pulleys and I am happy. If I would have had the Impact the whole time it would have been a 1 1/2 hour install, if that. The Balancer bolt was a little more difficult than I thought it would be.

I used your installation instructions and the ones that came with the pulleys. The only thing I had a hard time with was unhooking the wires for the fan. I was trying to unhook the wiring before I pulled the fan out. It was really hard to see how or where the plug unhooks at. But then I pulled the fan out about half way and there was enough slack in the wiring to where I could see it the wire really well. After that, I got hung up on the balancer bolt. I like to think I am pretty strong but I could break the damn thing. I drove 30 min to borrow an impact... the job was complete in about another 30 min.

I can feel a little more power down low. Just becuase I can peel longer in first gear starting at a lower rpm. Im glad I made the purchase. Thanks for all your help!

bigcat - thanks for the great write-up. I've been thinking of doing the same install in mine (2007 GT/CS) but I am concerned about how it would effect the charging system. Do you notice any problems at idle, such as dimmer headlights etc...? I put BBK underdrive pulleys in my 1990 Mustang GT several years back and although I did feel a SOTP difference I had charging problems, especially when I ran headlights with winshield wipers.

i have yet to notice any negative effects from the pulleys. others that have had them longer may have more insight on negative effects than me, but i do not recall reading any on this forum.
