Hi ,

A while back I ordered some replacement steering rack bushings for my 89 GT. I've been meaning to put them in with my friends dad (the mechanically inclined one) but I can't seem to find any instructions for replacing them. They just came in the boxes from Autozone.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Chris

Unbolt the rack and slide it off the k member. Pop out the old ones and install the new ones.

then put it all back together.

What made you decide to replace the bushings? Was the steering getting sticky?

The flex coupling for the steering shaft needs to be disconnected before you can get the rack out. You should disassemble the coupling by removing the 2 bolts that hold it together. This will allow the rack to be dropped once the mount bolts are removed.

When you re-install the rack assembly, put the rear bushings in the rack assembly and lift it into place. Then install the front bushings & washers and tighten down the nuts. Doing it this way makes room for the hydraulic lines without having them bind against the frame.
