Hey all, tried posting this in another forum but got no help, so I'll try here

Okay, having a bit of trouble finding the correct colour combinations for my stereo... since apparently there are a few different combinations by Ford depending on the year. Some of the guides I found pointed out the same wire for multiple speakers, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Also there's some other crap and I don't even know what it is.. so here's pics! btw car's a 91 LX, I think it had the premium stereo

Main harness closeup

I'm not sure what those two smaller grey adapters are for or the long ones wrapped in black tape, I know where the antenna cable is and I've been trying to identify all the wires for the main harness, but... I'm a bit lost.

Also, what are my options for fixing up the wiring (stupid bastards who cut harnesses). I may be swapping radios or switching my install, should I try and reconnect a stock harness and go with an adapter? I don't really know my options here, but I am proficient with splicing, soldering, etc. so that's not a problem

Thanks

There are several ways to attack this.

Best way is a Ford wiring diagram, which may be available at Autozone.com.

I got mine from Crutchfield, and they sent exact matching wiring diagrams. But because of the previous owner, I had to trace all four speaker wires with a meter. He extended all the wires with blue wire and nice large size orange wirenuts. I hate people like that.

A meter is probably the best way.

I did not have an amp, or any stock stuff that I could find, so it was straightforward.

The original power connector to the head unit probably has yellow for batt memory power, red for ignition switched power, blue for power antenna/amp, and the orange/white is the dashlight dimmer circuit. Black is ground. I don't remember if the gray or black is the power connector.

You are going to need to bust out the DMV and get the diagrams from autozone. I could probably run out to my car and check but I don't kow if the colors (though the years) will have stayed the same.

Looks like the factory amp was by-passed.The 2 gray connectors w/harness's originally came from the factory amps output. The cut wires are to the factory amps input.Perhaps some previous owner removed the factory amp.

The orange wire w/black stripe coming off the cut harness on the left is dimmer control.Yellow w/black stripe is ignition power. Can you clarify what color wires these are taped off to on the side?

Sorry which ones are you referring to? If it's the longer ones that appear to have been wrapped around quite a bit, those look like green, red, purple, black, white w/ pink stripe and yellow w/ black stripe.. I really dont know what that part was for
