Still With Oil Leak...What to Check Next?

Well,
the oil leak in the area of the Vortech Drain line still exists, even though I checked everything....I put a cloth around the fitting into the oil pan, and taped it tight (Saturday)...Today, I looked under the car, and the tape was tight, and there was some oil around the pan as described:

If you were to go under the car from the front, and look at the balancer, and look at the FIRST oil pan bolt on the pass side of it, there was a huge bead of oil puddled under that bolt, and one on the smaller bolt just adjacent, but it looked like the gasket area itself was dry. I wiped it clean and let the car run about 15 mins in the air, and no oil anywhere.

Doesnt look to be coming from the fitting.
It's not the hose.
Gasket appears dry.
Area within the balancer seems dry.
Doesnt look like it's dripping from above.

Any other suggestions?

Long shot but look at the V cover maybe it's dripping down from there (like I said long shot).

WHen Im under the car and shine the light above, I cant really see ANY signs that there is a leak from up top...THere are no "trail" marks anywhere.

RC mine does that also and I can't find it. It's making my smog eliminator bracket oily. I think that my oil breather cap is shooting it out under boost.

JR,
The only thing with that is like I said, EVERYTHING above the oil pan seems to be dry....There are no oil trails anywhere.

I guess I can try wiping off all the oil, and then drive it around for 15 minutes with NO added boost ( ...I know it's hard to do. )
and see if there is any oil underneath.

I'm probably not even close, but i couldn't figure where my car was leaking oil and it turned out to be the sensor that is in the oil pan to tell if the oil is low. I replaced that and haven't had any oil leak since. I think that is on the opposite side of what you are talking about though.

Clean all of the oil off of the pan & anywhere else it's leaking. Once it's clean, add some flourescent dye to the oil. Then go out and drive the car until it's warm. Really make the SC spool.

Then get a flourescent light (UV/blacklight) and look for dye. If there is any flourescent dye, you will see it. It shows up bright yellow/orange. I suggest putting the car in the garage, close the garage, turn off all the lights except the black light. It will help distinguish the dye from any other contaminants.

It also might be benefical to look at the car with the blacklight on before you add the dye. If there is anything present that might "look" like the dye you need to clean it off.

I may have to do this Scott...

JUST A THOUGHT:.....Is it possible that the oil can come down DIRECTLY through a bolt hole, causing the large bead on the bolt head? I never heard of this, but maybe some of you have. When I go to get my SFC's on today, Ill have Steeda take a glance at it.

Ok...I took the car to Steeda for the SFC install, and they said there appears to be a thin line running frum the Front Main than just works its way back to the area decribed. When I went under the car, the seal seemed dry, but they looked at it from a better angle, and as mentioned, said it looked like a thin line. IM guessing that when we put the Romac on last year in Sept, "something happened" to cause that ( I think shortly after that is when I notice the leak).

I dont have time or patience to redo that, so I guess it's gonna have to go off to the shop.

Anybody know what it costs for that??
Im sure it's about $5 for the part and a million gazillion $$ for the labor

Replacing the front main isn't too bad. Pull the fan, the crank pulley and balancer, undo the front 4 oil pan bolts and replace. I don't see it being any more than a 3-4 hour job.

Ill prolly screw something up if I try to do it myself.

I can work an extra shift at the pharmacy, and have someone do it for me.

Everytime I try to take something apart, I think I make it worse.

Luckily, it's not an emergency. I used to have the "S. FL Stang group" but that has all but fizzled out. Anyway, like I said, it's not an emergency.

DO NOT PUT OIL STOP LEAK IN THERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BUY A NEW BLOWER . it will plug your oil sprayer in the blower and cause it to lock up !

Is it the seal behind the balancer? I replaced that seal on my 95 when I did the balancer and it pulls out and you tap the new one in, really painless I dunno if this is the seal you are refering to though? Dan

Yeah, Dan, that's it...I just dont have the time or patience, and Im always worried that IM gonna $*#* something up. It took like 3-4 of us to take off that stock balancer for the Romac. I think one of the guys that was helping me may have "pinched" that seal a bit...which is why it is only a LITTLE leak. I dont have the puller for the balancer. Im gonna see what my mechanic will charge for that.
