I have a stock instrument cluster with the oil pressure gauge that doesn't really tell you anything. With that said I noticed during idle it was below the very first bar and during normal running just above the first bar. Is this too low? I have all stock equipment as far as I can tell.

Thanks in advance.

stock gauge is as good as a dummy light, if you are lucky. get a real gauge and know what gives (MHO). good luck.

When I went from stock to autometer, it was of great of interest to me to see the oil pressure start out high when cold, and once the car warmed up, the pressure would settle down to a "normal" level. The pressure also fluctuates up and down up to 10lbs depending on engine speed too. Like Hissin said, if it really bothers you, get a good aftermarket one. For a stock engine like yours (and mine, incidentally), the stock gauge is really good enough, imo. I just got it because I had to fill a space in the a-pillar gauge, and a voltmeter seemed even less needed. YMMV.

Well I don't have an aftermarket gauge and won't be getting one for some time. I just want to know if what I am seeing on my stock gauge should be cause for concern or is it normal???

Thanks again!!!

fost9508 Looks up as Lynx331's comment flies right over his head. Sending unit??? What exactly is involved with that? How does it work?

Can I assume what I am seeing is ok?

Thanks for all the help.

just get a cheap 15dollar sunpro one like i did

day shot

night shot

i just went ahead and only ran this one, some people take off the stock sender and run a T fitting, so as they can run the stock and aftermarket gauge, also if you go mechanical they say to run a copper line, i'm runnin the plastic line right now and no problems so far, but i think i'll change to copper just to be safe

the stock gauge is too inaccurate to be used as any sort of 'peace of mind', IMHO. any gauge will be better. i would atleast get one and hook it up short term so you know what gives. you can then remove it if you choose. the stock gauge is really either on or off.

good luck.
