Well, since my car was going in for the check engine light (vapor maintenence valve), I had them replace the strut bearings.

If you are experiencing the popping noise, I would definitely get this done. Quick job and the difference is very noticeable

a lot of us have had this done...it seems to only temporarily stop the popping. Mine stopped for about 500 miles, then came back.

Have the dealer do the entire TSB, which involves replacement of more than just the bearings. The TSB is available by searching this or other forums.

Sorry, my mistake. The tech said the problem was corrected as per the TSB. I've heard of people getting the bearings lubricated which caused the problem to re-occur but I thought that bearing replacement WAS the total fix. I'll check the work order to see exactly what was done. Thanks for pointing that out karazuba

My TSB parts on on order. Sure hope it fixes the problem permanently this time.

How long in hours did it take for the dealer to fix it?

TSB says it should take 1.5 hours.

Dealer did both sides of mine. Kept it 8 hours. Then wanted to keep it overnight. I didn't agree...

Anyway, hope your dealer is better than my former one was

The dealer's going to have my car overnight when the parts come in for the front end repair.
I'm getting my Shaker 500 replaced at the same time as the front end work, and the only time the radio guy is working is 11am-2pm (I'm at work at that time) so I don't have a choice about leaving the car overnight.

1.5 hours shown on the work order. I left the car all day because I was at work. Plus, I had the vapor mgt valve replaced that day too.

Dealer is lost

I called my dealer about the strut bearings yesterday, and said "I just started hearing the dreaded 'strut bearing pop', " and the service writer said that he'd never heard of it and that they've never done the repair on a Mustang.

It's Ford of Upland [CA], and they've been pretty good with service on my other cars in the past, so we'll see how it goes.

Mike, you might want to give the dealer a copy of the TSB. Its floating around the forum in several posts.

Can anyone tell me if the tsb fix for the popping also takes care of that annoying clunking noise in the front end. Is that what the isolator is for?, or is this a seperate issue.

I had mine done at my ford dealership and my bud put my steeda pro kit on at the same time. took 3 hours total front back and align. toe and camber was off he ordered the camber adjusters ( mustand dont have em Duh) putting them in tomarrow. cost is 40 bucks for the part. now he is my friend so he didnt charge me for the rear and alignment just the parts the front was free anyway because he took the springs out for the popping noise anyway. new springs were thicker and 3 inches shorter but over all the car is 1 inch front and 1 1/4 rear lower. rides great handles great and looks good. no more fist space between the tire and fender. most of the mechs at the dealer thought they should come that way. not to low just right. speed bumps no prob!
