SVT Package up $500 for 2012. But why?

Does anyone know why the SVT Package went up in price $500 for 2012? There looks to be no other price changes for the GT500 other than that.

This. the price has gone up a little every year. Why should this year be any different. Besides, the car review blogs and magazine articles are littered with 5.0 and shelby praise. Ford can price them wherevery they want and they know people will still buy them simply because there are few NEW cars you can drive off a lot with a warranty and get that much performance per dollar.

It took 13 dealership visits for me to find 2 that would go below MSRP on a 2012 GT.

I understand how the value of the dollar works. But what I'm trying to wrap my head around is how everything else on the Shelby is the same price as 2011 except the SVT package. If it was the devaluation of the dollar, then prices would have gone up across the board on the base Shelbys and all the options. But they didn't. I just don't get it. I'm looking at ordering a 2012 Shelby in about a month or so, so I can pick it up when I get off deployment. But I don't want to pay $500 extra for the exact same SVT package when everything else that is exactly the same on the car still costs exactly the same.

I don't know what the SVT package includes but is it possible that something in the package costs more to acquire? Manufacture? Assemble? Just a thought...

Maybe not enough people ordered it in 2011 so in order to make it viable to keep it in 2012 they had to bump the price?

Or... they felt like it.

This. More than likely the unit production costs for the SVTPP has gone up. As such, so as the cost for the end user.

It's still worth it IMO to get the pack even if it's increased in cost. Either that or you can decide to piece yours together on your own, getting a better suspension, and whatever pieces you want on the exterior.

They need to put some decent tires on the gt500 before i start paying a premium for it.

i should of probably rephrased the statement, saying they would need to put some tires on it that can handle its power so your not just spinning through second when you take off.

they are using goodyear f-1s i think, but most people who have the car say they cant handle the power. You can also see that when some magizines test the car and get high to mid 12s. Alot i think is because they dont have a driver who can put the power the the ground the other half is the tires cant handle the power very well. With a good set of tires it can go deep into the 11s easy. All they need is to put some tires with better rubber and you would have an awesome stock car.
