I have a 2002 GT, 78,000 miles.

When I start the car, 90% of the time, the gages sweep all the way across when I start the car. If the engine is still warm, it seems like they don't. I don't recall the car doing this before, its like the computer is being reset. Any ideas?

Also note, I do still have the original battery, will be 6 years old in a couple months, could this cause the issue? I am suprised it lasted this long because of the heat here in TX, batteries don't typically last more then 2-3 years. I also get some radio interference (loud hum), like I have a loose ground, but it's done that for years, the sweeping gages are fairly new.

Your battery is going. Time for a new one. Be glad you got 6 years out of it.

Thanks! I'll pick up a new one on the way home tonight. Better to do before it dies!

New battery installed, runs great again. I forgot how fast that starter used to turn over. Went with a Gold Die Hard from sears, with the hot heat here in TX I've had good luck with Die Hards in the past, never got less then 6 years out of one.
